Smoke can affect animals as well as people. When air quality is poor, keep pets indoors as much as possible, close windows and doors, and limit outdoor time to short bathroom breaks. Avoid strenuous exercise until conditions improve.

Watch for coughing, eye irritation, unusual tiredness, noisy breathing or difficulty breathing. Contact your veterinary clinic if you’re concerned—difficulty breathing requires immediate veterinary attention.
