🐰 Exciting News for Exotic Pet Owners! 🦜

For years, Riverview Animal Health Centre has provided emergency care for exotic pets when they needed us most. Today, we're excited to enhance those services with the launch of Exotic Services with Dr. Jessie Vandenbruggen.

Dr. Jessie has dedicated her veterinary career to the care of exotic animals. During her veterinary training, she completed externships in multiple countries, gaining hands-on experience with a wide variety of exotic species and learning alongside veterinarians with diverse areas of expertise from around the world.

After graduating from veterinary school in 2020, she completed a zoological medicine internship in Belgium, followed by a specialty internship with the Zoo, Exotics and Wildlife Service at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. She then completed a three-year residency focused exclusively on exotic companion animal medicine and surgery and remained with the service in a clinical supervisory role, continuing to manage advanced medical and surgical cases while helping train veterinary students and interns.

Whether you share your life with a rabbit, parrot, bearded dragon, ferret, hedgehog, hamster, rat, guinea pig, sugar glider, fish, or another companion exotic animal, Dr. Jessie is dedicated to providing advanced care tailored to their unique needs.

Our exotic services include:

✨ Wellness & Preventive Care
✨ Husbandry, Behaviour & Nutrition Consultations
✨ Sick Pet & Emergency Assessments
✨ Advanced Diagnostics, including CT, Endoscopy, Ultrasound & X-rays
✨ Surgery & Dentistry
✨ Long-Term Medical Management

We are also pleased to accept referrals from veterinarians seeking advanced exotic animal care.

🦎 Services are available in English and French.

🦦 Appointments are now available. Call us to book at 506-387-4015.

We're proud to expand the care available to exotic pets in our region and look forward to supporting both new and existing exotic pet families throughout our community!

Sometimes helping people means helping the animals they love, too. ❤️🐾

Back in July, we came across a post from that really stayed with us.

It was a reminder that when someone is experiencing homelessness or a crisis, their pet is often more than just a pet. They are a source of comfort, companionship, and stability during some of life's most difficult moments.
We knew we wanted to help.

Our team came together to collect and donate dog food for the animals supported through Miramichi Housing Solutions. While coordinating the donation, we learned they were also caring for cats displaced alongside their owners following a housing closure that left 46 people without a home. We were grateful for the opportunity to help support those pets as well.

We recently received a heartfelt note from their team that reminded us why this work matters:

"Your kindness has made a meaningful difference in the lives of both the people and animals we support."

A special thank you to our incredible partners at Hill's Pet Nutrition and Purina, whose generosity helped make this donation possible.

And thank you to Melissa and the entire team at Miramichi Housing Solutions for the important work you do every day. Thank you for recognizing that pets are family and for supporting both people and their beloved companions as they work toward stability and a brighter future. ❤️

🐾💛 Big impact in the Elsipogtog Community! 💛🐾

In partnership with PAW (People for Animal Wellbeing), we set out with a simple goal: vaccinate 100 dogs against parvovirus and rabies. Not only did we meet that goal—we surpassed it when we returned for the booster clinic! 🙌

With 4 of our veterinarians and 20 support team members, we were proud to work alongside PAW to help keep pets healthy and protected.

We met so many amazing people and their furry companions and truly had a blast being part of such a meaningful initiative.

A huge thank you to Zoetis for generously supplying the vaccines for both clinics—your support helped make this possible. 💉🐾

Thank you to PAW for the collaboration, and to the Elsipogtog community for showing up and trusting us with your pets. 💛

We were thrilled to help bring a Canadian Animal Blood Bank (CABB) Donor Clinic back to New Brunswick 🩸🐾

With the incredible support of Ariana from CABB, we were able to host this life-saving initiative right here at our hospital—and we couldn’t feel more fortunate to be part of it. We welcomed so many amazing canine heroes who stepped up to make a difference.

Just like humans, animals need blood too. Every day, critically ill and injured pets rely on transfusions—whether for surgery, trauma, or ongoing treatments like cancer care. Each donation collected can help save up to three other dogs, making a meaningful impact across Canada.

Did You Know?: Dogs have different blood types, and those who are DEA 1 Negative are especially important—they’re universal donors in emergency situations, and the demand for this blood type is always high. That said, every donation plays a vital role in giving another dog a second chance.

A huge thank you to our incredible canine heroes and their families (we loved meeting each and every one of you!), to Ariana and the CABB team for making this clinic possible, and to our amazing hospital team for bringing this initiative to life here in New Brunswick 🙌

As an emergency hospital, we rely on blood products regularly and are always looking for donors for urgent, life-saving situations. If you think your pet has what it takes to be a hero, we would love to hear from you! 🐕✨

🩸 Last Chance - New Brunswick Dog Donor Call-Out! 🩸

Canadian Animal Blood Bank (CABB) is hitting the road and heading to Riverview Animal Health Centre for a special donor clinic this weekend!

📅 Sunday, June 7th, 2026

We’re looking for a few more amazing dogs to volunteer as blood donors. Every donation helps ensure that critically ill or injured pets across Atlantic Canada have access to the blood products they need during emergencies, surgeries, and life-saving treatments.

Perks for our hero donors:

-The chance to help save another pet's life
-Free blood typing, Tick, heartworm and other infectious disease screening
-Bandana and donor collar tag
-Social media recognition
-Life-time free IOU of blood products/ donation
-Microchip (at second donation)

Basic donor requirements:

-Healthy dogs over 55 lbs
-1–8 years old
-Friendly and comfortable with handling
-Up to date on core vaccinations or titers
-On seasonal prevention during warm months

Donations are safe and done without sedation. They typically take about 3-5 minutes. Most dogs relax with lots of love, treats, and belly rubs while they help save lives. 🐾

🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🌈

Creating an inclusive and welcoming environment doesn’t happen through one action or one month—it happens through the choices we make every day.

As part of Pride Season, we asked members of our team what actions they take to help ensure Riverview Animal Health Centre feels safe, welcoming, and inclusive for everyone. Their responses reflect the values we strive to uphold for our colleagues, clients, and community.

We know there is always more to learn, and we’re committed to continuing to listen, grow, and foster a culture where everyone feels respected, supported, and free to be themselves.

Thank you to our team for sharing their perspectives and for helping make RAHC a place of belonging for all. 🏳️‍🌈🐾

Last week, we celebrated the incredible Veterinary Assistants who help make everything we do possible at Riverview Animal Health Centre. ❤️

Our VAs spend so much time with your pets during their visits. They are the comforting voices, the extra hands, the patient advocates, the treat-givers, the laundry-folders, the restraint experts, the late-night helpers, and the team members who jump in wherever needed without hesitation. Their compassion, dedication, and hard work play a huge role in the care your animals receive every single day.
Simply put, we could not provide the level of care that we do without them.

As a special thank you during Veterinary Assistant Appreciation Week, we treated our VA team to a Sip & Shop celebration complete with Pawgaritas and Code Reds (aka Shirley Temples). A small way to
celebrate a team that deserves so much recognition for all that they do.

Please help us show our Veterinary Assistants some love by leaving a kind message or shoutout in the comments below! 👇🏻

We’re proud to share that our hospital is Trupanion Certified for the second year in a row! 🐾

What this means for our pet parents: if your pet is insured with Trupanion, we’re able to direct bill, helping reduce out‑of‑pocket costs at the time of care and allowing you to focus on what matters most—your pet.

A special shout‑out to Meaghan, one of our amazing CSRs, who you’ll see in the photo installing our 2025 Trupanion Certification plaque—white gloves and all, courtesy of Trupanion! 🧤💙 Thank you for helping us proudly display this milestone.

Have questions about pet insurance or direct billing? Our team is always happy to help.

🐾 Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Week 🐾

This week, we are celebrating the 17 incredible receptionists who are the heart of Riverview Animal Health Centre. Each of them brings something unique to our team, and we are so proud of every single one of them.

Our receptionists are the first and last faces our clients see. They answer the phone during some of the most stressful moments—acting like 911 dispatchers for animals, calmly guiding our clients through emergencies. They offer coffee, snacks, and comfort. They sit with clients while their pets are with our medical team. They juggle emotions, urgency, and compassion every single day.

Simply put, they have one of the hardest jobs in our hospital, and they do it with professionalism, kindness, and heart.
Thank you to Kyla, Danica, Meaghan, Donna, Linda, Kim, Taylor, Max, Jessica, Jill, Sharon, Natalie, Sarah, Jamie, Madeline, Gabrielle, and Corinna — Riverview wouldn’t be the same without you. 💙
