Quality hoof care with your horse’s long-term comfort and soundness as the top priority. Hi, my name is Carey Kastner, and I’m now based in Renfrew, Ontario after moving here from Alberta. I’m a graduate of the Oklahoma Horseshoeing School and have 7+ years of hands-on experience. I apprenticed with highly respected farriers, including one with over 50 years in the trade, where I gained extensive knowledge in corrective work such as laminitis and club feet, as well as shoeing high-performance horses in jumping, dressage, and barrel racing. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of shoeing horses in film and television (Heartland, Night at the Museum and more), as well as working with top-level competitors, including being the farrier for 10 chuckwagon teams. I was proud to shoe Jason Glass’ team the year he won the Calgary Stampede, broke track records, and won the WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals. Whether your horse is a backyard buddy or a top competitor, I bring skill, reliability, and quality hoof care to every job.

Pretty exciting getting the opportunity to work on a stallion I’ve admired and followed for a long time.

6 months of progress

The first photo is where we started when I took him on (not my shoeing), and the second is where we are now.

This has been a complicated foot with a lot of old damage to grow out, but I’m happy with the new growth coming down and how much this foot has changed.

Current package is a 3D 1° wedge pad with DIM and a leather rim pad. The compromised lateral wall area has been intentionally floated to take the load off that section while it grows out, hence the gap you can see on that side.
