Let’s Talk Cats!
Kittens are cute and cuddly—but they quickly grow into adult cats, and unplanned litters can add up fast. Over time, this leads to cat overpopulation and more stray and free-roaming cats in our community.
What you can do
• Spay or neuter your cat. This helps prevent overpopulation, supports long-term health, and can reduce certain behavioural issues.
• Keep your cat indoors. Indoor cats are safer and help reduce impacts on local wildlife and neighbourhoods.
Our community efforts
CARE Animal Rescue has hosted two Neuter Scooter affordable spay/neuter clinics, helping 40 cats get fixed and receive rabies vaccinations. We’re planning another clinic for September, and possibly October. The Neuter Scooter clinics are in collaboration with the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society Renfrew County Animal Centre.
We’re also working on offering a low-cost rabies clinic soon with the support of the Renfrew County and District Health Unit based in Pembroke.
We’re also partnering with the community, including local law enforcement, to address the stray cat problem safely and responsibly.
Why it matters
Spaying and neutering are responsible choices that protect your cat’s health and well-being while helping reduce the number of strays. By offering affordable clinics, CARE supports individual pets and strengthens families, communities, and local animal-welfare organizations.
