 we can only dream.
Emma Garner, a 45-year-old woman from Wakefield in Yorkshire, once lived a very different life. For 11 years, she worked as a claims assessor at a law firm, earning £20,000 a year. The job was stable, but it came with stress and long hours. Deep down, Emma wanted something more peaceful and flexible.
In 2014, she started a small side business with an unusual idea—cleaning up dog waste for busy pet owners. She called it “The Dog Poo Professionals.” At first, it was just extra income, something she did alongside her regular job.
But in 2016, everything changed. Emma was made redundant. Instead of feeling defeated, she saw it as a chance to take a risk. She decided to focus on her small business full-time.
Slowly, her work began to grow. More and more people needed her service. Today, Emma serves hundreds of customers every week across West and South Yorkshire. She charges £14 per week per dog, and her income has grown to four times what she used to earn.
Now, she works fewer hours, feels almost no stress, and enjoys her independence. With her success, she even bought a four-bedroom house worth £195,000.
Emma’s journey shows that sometimes, a simple idea—and a bold decision—can completely change your life.
