Central Alberta Humane Society (formerly known as Red Deer & District SPCA) is a 'no kill/max adopt' shelter and adoption center dedicated to the re-homing of unwanted, abandoned and stray companion animals. We are committed to helping animals and the community, and inspiring change through education. This is our mission and together with a dedicated staff, over 500 volunteers, and a generous community of advocates and donors we are making a big difference in the lives of so many desperate, lost or forgotten animals each year.

😇💗 HII EVERYBODY!! 👋🏼🥰 My name is Angel, I’m a 6 month old Pit Bull puppy, and I’m here to steal your heart, your couch, and probably a sock or two along the way 🧦😂! I'm a BABY! I have puppy energy, a whole lot of love to give, and approximately 47 things to investigate every five minutes 🤣🐾!

I get along great with other dogs, and having a furry friend around could be lots of fun and help me with my confidence 🐶! Cats? I love them, they're my best friends!

😳 Okay, so here's the thing…I'm still figuring this whole life business out. Sometimes new things make me nervous, and I need a patient human to help me build my confidence. With gentle encouragement, positive training, and someone who believes in me, I know I can learn that the world isn't quite as terrifying as it sometimes seems 🥹❤️!

And because I'm SIX MONTHS OLD, I'll need someone ready for all the fun that comes with raising a puppy! Think training sessions, playtime, adventures, learning new things, and redirecting my attention when I suddenly decide that a leaf is the most suspicious thing I've ever seen 🍂😂!

💙🐾TWO BEST FRIENDS LOOKING FOR ONE FOREVER HOME!

Meet Briar & Nugget who have so much love to give and are hoping to find a forever home TOGETHER! These two are the best of friends, and having each other by their sides would make their next chapter even more special. They both absolutely LOVE people and are ready to soak up all the affection, attention, and cuddles their future family has to offer 🐱💕. Who needs a pair of house slippers when you could have two furry shadows following you around instead?!

Both boys are FIV positive. But don't let that scare you away from meeting these incredible cats 💙!

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is a virus that affects a cat's immune system, potentially making it harder for them to fight off infections. While FIV is a lifelong condition, many FIV positive cats can live long, happy, comfortable lives with proper veterinary care, a nutritious diet, and a safe indoor environment.

Here's what you should know:

💙 FIV is NOT contagious to humans or dogs. You cannot catch FIV from your cat, and neither can your canine companions.

💙 FIV positive cats can live long, happy lives! With regular veterinary checkups and prompt attention to any signs of illness, many enjoy years of wonderful companionship.

💙 FIV is primarily spread through deep bite wounds. It is not easily transmitted through casual contact such as sharing food bowls, grooming each other, or simply living together peacefully. Because these boys are already the best of friends, their bond is something truly special!

💙 Indoor living is essential. These boys will need to be strictly indoor only cats. They must NEVER be allowed outside, both to protect their health and to reduce the risk of spreading FIV to other cats.

These two aren't asking for much. Just a safe home, a family to love, cozy places to nap, and the chance to spend the rest of their lives together 🏡.

Imagine getting TWO built in best friends, twice the purrs, twice the cuddles, and twice the entertainment! These boys have so much love to give, and we would love nothing more than to see them find a family willing to look past their diagnosis and see them for the wonderful cats they are.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself 🥰! Other doggos? Of course! I get along with other dogs and would love to have some four legged friends to play with! People are my FAVOURITE 💕. Seriously, if you have a heart for loving, and time to spend with me, I'm already your biggest fan 😊! Energy? I have PLENTY! I'm a super high energy girl who needs to stay busy 🤔! I would love an active family who enjoys adventures, walks, hikes, games, training sessions, and giving me fun things to do 👾! Working in animal welfare is mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausting enough without having to constantly defend ourselves against rude, hurtful comments from people who have absolutely no idea what goes on behind the scenes.

We understand that people care about animals. We do, too. That’s WHY we do what we do. But there is a BIG difference between advocating for animals and tearing down the people who dedicate their lives to helping them.

The comments about animals being “locked up,” accusations that we don’t do enough to showcase our animals, and endless criticism from people who don’t know the full story can be incredibly disheartening.

You see a social media post. We see the animal behind it. You see a kennel. We see an animal who may have come from neglect, abuse, or abandonment with nowhere else to go. You see a photo you think isn’t good enough. We see the countless hours spent cleaning, feeding, comforting, and caring for animals who need us. You see a few minutes online. You don’t see the long days, heartbreaking cases, difficult decisions, or emotional toll this work takes.

Animal shelters aren’t perfect. No organization is. We are human beings who care deeply, work hard, get tired, and continue showing up because these animals deserve someone in their corner.

Have questions? Ask them. Have constructive feedback? Share it respectfully. Want to make a difference? Volunteer, foster, donate, or share our posts to help animals find homes.

Please remember there are REAL people behind every post, photo, adoption, and difficult decision. People who go home emotionally drained and carry heartbreaking stories long after their shifts end.

Compassion should not stop with the animals. It should extend to the people fighting for them, too.

Choose compassion over criticism and understanding over assumptions. You never know the full story behind what you see online 💙🐾.

🐾❤️ Hi there, my name's Walker!

I'm a 1 year old Pit Bull mix with a big heart, friendly personality, and SO much love to give to my people. I'm also pretty dog friendly, a proper meet and greet would be required 🥹💙!

I'm a friendly guy who just wants to be loved, included, and shown all the wonderful things life has to offer. Could you be my new best friend 🐶🥹?

I'll be honest with you, though. I haven't had the easiest start in life 😔. I didn't come from the best environment, so I'm still learning how to be a dog and figuring out what this whole world is all about. Some things that might seem simple to other dogs are still new to me, but I'm trying my best!

Right now, I'm working on my basic training and learning all those important skills that will help me become the best companion I can be. I might need a little extra patience, consistency, and understanding while I figure things out, but I'm only a year old! I've got so much time to learn, grow, and become the amazing dog I know I can be 🐾🎓.
