It’s been such a crazy season. I haven’t really written my thoughts down for quite sometime. After spending this past weekend at a show with a few longtime students I just had to put these thoughts into words.

One of the most rewarding things as a coach is watching a student stick with the process long enough to truly grow. ❤️

There is so much value in staying with a program, trusting your coach, and allowing the pieces to build over time.

Riding is full of moments where progress feels slow. Sometimes you’re asked to change something that doesn’t immediately make sense. Sometimes the work feels harder before it feels better. That’s where trust becomes so important.

It’s easy to jump from coach to coach, collecting different exercises, opinions and pieces of information. But sometimes, in constantly looking for the next answer, we never give one program enough time to actually work.

The riders who make the biggest transformations aren’t necessarily the ones who find the perfect exercise every week. They’re the ones who are willing to listen, learn, struggle, repeat and trust the process.

Good coaching is a relationship. It takes time for a coach to understand a horse and rider, recognize patterns, build a foundation and know when to push—and when to back off.

So to my students who have stayed, trusted, worked through the frustrating days and allowed the process to unfold: I see you. And I’m proud of you.

The results of consistency may not always be immediate, but they are often the most lasting.

Stay long enough to let the work become yours.

Step Into Dressage is in the books! 😃

Despite some challenging weather, competitors, volunteers, officials, and supporters came together to make for a successful weekend of dressage!!

Between coaching, competing, and helping with show management, it was a busy but rewarding few days. It was wonderful to see riders achieve goals, gain experience, and support one another throughout the show 😊…. That’s what it’s all about!

A special congratulations to my clients on their achievements this weekend!
Your hard work, perseverance, and commitment to your horses continue to pay off, and I’m so proud of all you accomplished in challenging conditions. 🐴✨

🐴 DRESSAGE SOLUTIONS!🐴 To encourage your horse to seek the connection and reach into both reins when asking him to stretch forward and down …

Close your leg and give your reins forward, thinking of the reins as telephone lines where the messages can be sent and received only if the circuit is not broken or loopy.

Qualities that make a good leg-yield:

✅ The horse moves both forwards and sideways on two tracks.
✅ The rhythm and tempo remains consistent.
✅ The horse's body stays straight with the shoulders about one hoofprint in front of the hindquarters, and a very slight flexion at the poll away from the direction of travel.
✅ If in trot, the horse's inside legs pass and cross in front of the horse's outside legs.
✅ The horse moves freely forward, working through his back without tension or resistance, and the balance is uphill.
✅ The contact is elastic and consistent.
✅ There is a clear start and end to the movement.
✅ The positioning of the leg-yield remains the same throughout the movement, without steep or shallow variations.

🐴 DRESSAGE SOLUTIONS: Improve Quality of Contact🐴

To help improve the quality of your contact and the connection with your horse …

Imagine that the dynamics of contact are similar to that of sailing a boat. The wind (impulsion and energy) is essential and you use the sails (reins) to harness the wind. You sail forward (and connect the horse from back to front). The goal is to achieve self-carriage with silent aids.
