Such a devastating loss 💔

The Alberta Equestrian Federation extends its heartfelt condolences to the riders, owners, families, and support teams affected by the tragic vehicle accident involving horses travelling to the Equestrian Canada National Dressage and Para Dressage Championships (West) in Langley, BC.

The loss of three horses is heartbreaking, and our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy, including the riders, owners, families, support teams, and those who were caring for and travelling with these horses. Across Alberta and Canada, the equestrian community is closely connected, and losses such as this are felt deeply by all who love and care for horses.

For those affected and anyone struggling during this time, support is available through Alberta's Mental Health Help Line at 1-877-303-2642, by calling 211, or through Kids Help Phone at 1-800-668-6868.

❤️ Our thoughts are with all those affected.

📣 Meet Buddy- A Registered Azteca Gelding

Buddy is an 8 yr old registered Azteca gelding with a fantastic personality, and the potential to go in different directions!

Buddy is the ultimate “in-your-pocket” horse. He is always the first to meet you at the gate and genuinely loves being around people. He is a pleasure to handle. He is good with his feet and the farrier, hauling, bathing and clipping. Easy keeper with no vices. Can live in a paddock or in a group.

Buddy came from a farm specializing in Canadian Natural Horsemanship, where he developed an extensive foundation in groundwork and handling. In 2023, he completed 90 days of professional training and was introduced to jumping.

Buddy was purchased as an eventing prospect and has been schooled on cross-country and jumped up to 2’3”.
As his training has progressed, the potential to excel in dressage, jumping, working equitation and or eventing has become more apparent.

Buddy is currently in training with me and has been for the past 6 months. We are continuing to develop his education, confidence and way of going. I feel he has nice potential in dressage, but his versatility is one of the things I love most about him. He could go any direction.

Buddy is still green and is looking for someone who enjoys developing a horse. In new situations, he can sometimes become hesitant or tense while he processes what is being asked of him. He does not tend to react by spooking, and he has never bucked, bolted or reared. He is sensitive but sensible.

He would be best suited to an intermediate rider working with a supportive trainer/program, or an experienced rider who wants to bring along a talented prospect.

Buddy is a horse working towards a solid foundation, has a wonderful personality and a lot of room to grow!
With the right partnership, I believe he has the potential to become a very special horse.

It’s been such a crazy season. I haven’t really written my thoughts down for quite sometime. After spending this past weekend at a show with a few longtime students I just had to put these thoughts into words.

One of the most rewarding things as a coach is watching a student stick with the process long enough to truly grow. ❤️

There is so much value in staying with a program, trusting your coach, and allowing the pieces to build over time.

Riding is full of moments where progress feels slow. Sometimes you’re asked to change something that doesn’t immediately make sense. Sometimes the work feels harder before it feels better. That’s where trust becomes so important.

It’s easy to jump from coach to coach, collecting different exercises, opinions and pieces of information. But sometimes, in constantly looking for the next answer, we never give one program enough time to actually work.

The riders who make the biggest transformations aren’t necessarily the ones who find the perfect exercise every week. They’re the ones who are willing to listen, learn, struggle, repeat and trust the process.

Good coaching is a relationship. It takes time for a coach to understand a horse and rider, recognize patterns, build a foundation and know when to push—and when to back off.

So to my students who have stayed, trusted, worked through the frustrating days and allowed the process to unfold: I see you. And I’m proud of you.

The results of consistency may not always be immediate, but they are often the most lasting.

Stay long enough to let the work become yours.

🐴 DRESSAGE SOLUTIONS!🐴 To encourage your horse to seek the connection and reach into both reins when asking him to stretch forward and down …

Close your leg and give your reins forward, thinking of the reins as telephone lines where the messages can be sent and received only if the circuit is not broken or loopy.
