Photo Dump: Dolly's Boys' Big Adventure 💜🐾
Today I needed to make a trip to Edmonton, so Dolly's boys came along for the ride.
I couldn't have been prouder of them.
The boys were absolute stars while traveling. Not a peep when they went into their shared crate and not a sound during the nearly hour-and-a-half drive to Edmonton.
Our first stop was the NACA dog show at the Ottewell Curling Club. Before heading onto the grounds, I set up an ex-pen and gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs. The boys quickly took care of business, had a drink of water, and happily returned to their crate.
From there, they graduated to the puppy buggy where they took in all the sights and sounds of a busy dog show. Lots of people, dogs of every shape and size, barking, grooming, applause—and through it all they were calm.
We spent about an hour at the show and the boys never made a peep. In fact, Skeeter very nearly went home in the pocket of a Mastiff breeder who fell completely in love with him. 🤣
Our next stop was Sherwood Park to visit Mama Dolly, Uncle Kevin, and grandparents Craig and Marianne. To my surprise, they had invited some extra company, including Jan and Rachel, who are eagerly counting down the days until their puppy joins them at home.
It was so much fun watching the boys begin to show their individual personalities.
💙 Johnnie is a snuggler through and through. It didn't matter if he had just met someone five minutes earlier—he wanted to be touching a human. He especially seemed drawn to the men. Even with his brothers nearby and Mom close at hand, he would voice his opinion if he wasn't cuddled up beside someone.
💙 Skeeter was all about play. He spent much of his visit racing around, playing tug with his brothers, and engaging in a spirited game of keep-away whenever he happened to possess the favourite toy. He was happy to stop for cuddles, but there were simply too many exciting things happening to stay still for long.
💙 Billie was thrilled to see his mom and spent quite a bit of time trying to convince her that perhaps she still owed him a snack. Dolly was not interested in renegotiating that contract. 🤣 Once he accepted that reality, he became quite the explorer, venturing onto the rock landscaping near where the adults were gathered before deciding the grass and people were far more entertaining.
💙 Porter was focused on the important things in life. First food. Then play. Once supper was finished, he fully committed himself to a game of three-way tug and spent much of the afternoon challenging his brothers for possession of the favourite toys. If they weren't interested in playing when he asked, Porter simply took matters into his own paws and pounced.
The boys also handled a completely different soft-sided exercise pen while we enjoyed supper and were very appreciative of the treats available at Grandma and Grandpa's house.
Eventually it was time to say goodbye to Mama Dolly, Uncle Kevin, and the grandparents. The boys loaded up for the trip home, settled in for another long nap, and arrived back tired, happy, and full of new experiences.
After one final meal, everyone tucked themselves in for the night.
Days like this remind me why all the early socialization, handling, outings, ENS, ESI, visitors, and exposure are so important. Watching these boys take on an entirely new environment with confidence made me incredibly proud.
Well done, Dolly's boys. 💜🐾
