We often assume our dogs are sleeping peacefully while we're away, but that isn't always the case.

Some dogs may relax, sleep, and enjoy their alone time. Others might pace, whine, bark, or struggle with being left alone.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸.

You don't need an expensive setup. Even a simple camera or old phone can help you see what your dog does after you leave.

This gives you the opportunity to: 🐾 Make sure they're comfortable and safe. 🐾 Notice signs of stress you might otherwise miss. 🐾 Adjust their routine or environment if needed. 🐾 Get support before alone-time struggles become more difficult.

Your dog doesn't have to be destructive or loud for something to be wrong. ❤️

Just because your dog knows how to do something at home doesn’t mean they automatically know how to do it everywhere!

Your dog might have a perfect sit in the living room, but struggle at the park, around other dogs, or in a new environment. 😅

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗻. They might just need more practice in that particular situation.

Dogs need to learn that a behaviour applies in different places, around different distractions, and in different situations.

Start somewhere your dog understands, then gradually increase the challenge. Make it easier when needed, and reward them for getting it right! 🐶

The goal is to help your dog succeed everywhere—not just in the living room. ❤️

🚨 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲-𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀?

Assuming your puppy actually went potty because you let them outside.

Your puppy may have gone out, sniffed around, chased a leaf, eaten some grass… and then come back inside without doing anything. 😂

So when you're house-training, 𝗴𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

Wait for them to actually p*e or p**p.

Then 𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆! 🥳

That way, you know they've emptied their bladder, AND you're able to reinforce the behaviour you want: doing their business outside.

It also helps prevent the classic…

“I'm pretty sure she went outside…”

5 minutes later… p*e on the floor. 🤦‍♀️

The goal isn't just to prevent accidents — it's to 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴.❤️

🚨 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗜 𝘀𝗲𝗲?

Calling your dog when you already know they probably won’t come.

If your dog is completely focused on playing with their best friend, chasing something, or sniffing something very interesting, calling them over and over isn’t setting them up for success.

And if you call:

“Come!”

“Come!”

“COME!”

…and they keep ignoring you, you’re giving that recall cue a lot of opportunities to become background noise.

Instead, 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝘂𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱.

Then reward them when they do!

Think about the sound of a treat bag crinkling. 🦴

If 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱, 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀, they’re going to learn that the sound predicts something good.

That’s the kind of history you want to build around your recall cue.

𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 “𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲” 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗. ❤️

And as your dog gets better, gradually practice around bigger distractions — rather than jumping straight from “come in the backyard” to “come away from your best friend at the dog park.”
