Not all lumps and bumps are the same—and the only way to know what a mass truly is, is to sample it. Fine needle aspirates are a fast, low-stress procedure that can often give us answers within minutes, helping avoid unnecessary worry and allowing us to make informed decisions sooner. For Chevy we were able to act quickly and get the best chance to kick cancer in the butt!

🐾 Case of the Week: Chevy 🐾

Chevy is a very special patient—he’s one of our staff pets! ❤️

A lump appeared quickly, and our team performed a fine needle aspirate (FNA), which confirmed it was a mast cell tumour. The mass was surgically removed and sent for grading to determine how aggressive it was. The results showed a high-grade tumour, so Chevy began a chemotherapy plan.

We’re happy to share that Chevy is doing very well and staying his happy, brave, food loving self throughout treatment! 🐶💪

Important reminder for pet owners:
If you notice a new lump or bump on your pet, it’s always best to have it checked by your veterinarian. Many masses can look similar on the outside, and a quick test like an FNA can help determine what it is and whether further treatment is needed. Early detection and early intervention can make a significant difference in outcomes.

Very important advice for all aspects of medicine for ourselves and our pets!

Very important advice for all aspects of medicine for ourselves and our pets!

If there’s one piece of advice I’d give to anyone following me, it’s this: finding the answers to health issues takes time.

We live in a world that rewards quick fixes and viral “miracle cures,” but the truth is that medicine is often a slow process of ruling things out, testing hypotheses, and learning from experience. The best outcomes don’t come from shortcuts. They come from patience, persistence, and partnership with people who care about getting it right, not just getting it fast. I will work with patients from time to time where I won’t know the answer right away, but I am honest and upfront about what I know, what I need help with, and whether there is likely multiple answers.

So if you’re still searching for answers, don’t give up. Slow progress is still progress.

🌞 Summer Has Started – Keep Your Pets Safe in the Heat! 🐾

The first day of summer was on Friday and while we’re excited for longer days and outdoor fun, it’s important to remember that high temperatures can be dangerous for our furry friends.

🔥 Pet Summer Safety Tips:
➡Never leave pets in parked cars – even with the windows cracked, temperatures can soar in minutes!
➡Walk early or late – avoid hot pavement during peak heat hours to protect sensitive paws.
➡Provide plenty of fresh water – hydration is key!
➡Offer shade – if your pet is outside, make sure they have access to cool, shaded areas.
➡Watch for signs of heatstroke – excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, or vomiting can all be warning signs.

Let’s make this summer fun AND safe for every member of the family – including the four-legged ones! 🐶🐱💛
