FALL TRAINING UPDATE 🍂🐾

Temperatures are down, energy is up, and there’s no shortage of volunteers when the harnesses come out! 😂

We’re starting to add more miles with three crews getting out:

🐾 Crew 1: 8 dogs, race crew
🐾 Crew 2: 8 dogs, race crew
🐾 Crew 3: 7 dogs, oldies and youngsters. Some showing the way, others keeping everyone young!

We’re still keeping teams small, trying different pairings, and giving dogs a chance to work in different roles. It’s fun watching them figure things out together and seeing who steps up when given the chance. They’ve all got something to bring to the team.

We’ve got a big winter ahead, and these fall miles are time well spent together. Getting stronger, building confidence, and learning just as much from the dogs as they learn from us.

And work and play are equally important around here! There’s always time to just be dogs, chase a buddy, start a wrestling match, and bring a little Wildland chaos to the yard.

A whole lot of personality and plenty of reasons to smile. We sure love this crew. 🖤

We really can’t thank everyone enough for all the love and support we’ve gotten with the sponsorships this season. ❤️

We probably don’t say it enough, but every sponsor, every share, every message and every person following along means a lot to us.

We put so much of ourselves into these dogs and into what we’re trying to build with Wildland, so seeing people get behind the team and care about the dogs the way we do is something we really appreciate.

Every sponsorship helps keep this crew fed, trained, healthy and happy, and helps us keep working toward some pretty big goals this winter with the Yukon Quest 300, the Odyssey 100 and the Percy DeWolfe 185 all on the schedule.

And when the miles start stacking up, the trail gets tough and the sled starts feeling heavy, it means a lot knowing there’s a whole crew back home pulling for us and helping push Wildland toward that finish line.

There are still a few dogs looking for sponsors this season too, so if you’ve been thinking about getting behind one of the crew, there’s still a chance.

Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We’re incredibly grateful for every bit of support and for everyone who’s choosing to be part of this with us.

It really does mean the world to us. ❤️🐾

STILL LOOKING TO SUPPORT THE CREW THIS SEASON? 🐾

The leaders of our crew are still looking for their people this season.

Cello is the steady one. Calm, experienced and dependable. He’s the dog you want up front when the trail gets long, hard or messy.

Tennessee is the firecracker. Young, intense, full of drive and usually operating like someone forgot to tell him there was a speed limit.

One brings the calm. One brings the chaos.

Together, they somehow make a pretty great front end.

Cello, Tennessee and a few others are still looking for support this season.

Crew Support — Any Amount
Every little bit helps keep the truck moving, the dogs fed and our bank account mildly concerned.

Trail Buddy — $100
Helps cover trail meat, snacks and the little things that keep a working dog convinced this whole running-for-fun idea is actually worth it.

Team Supporter — $250
Helps with kibble, harnesses, booties and the endless pile of gear that apparently disappears the second winter starts.

Season Sponsor — $500
You’re backing one dog through the season and helping with the food, gear, training and race prep that goes into getting them to the start line.

And we want our sponsors to actually feel like part of the crew too.

You’ll get a Wildland T-shirt and sticker, a photo postcard of your dog, race recaps when they hit the trail, photos and updates through the season, and a thank-you at the end of it all.

Every mile we put on this crew now is another mile toward the Yukon Quest 300.

If Cello, Tennessee or another member of the crew feels like your kind of dog, send us a message and come along for the ride.

Our Yukon Quest 300 musher profile is live! 🐾

Head over to the Yukon Quest page and give the Wildland crew some love — a like, comment or share goes a long way in helping more people find and follow our team.

Pretty special seeing some of our dogs and our little kennel getting featured as we get ready for 300 miles this winter.

Go make some noise for Wildland! 😬

🐾 WELCOME TO THE RACE GREGORY WILLIAMSON! 🐾

From Quesnel, British Columbia, Gregory Williamson is bringing Wildland Sled Dogs to the starting line of the 2027 Yukon Quest 300!

Gregory’s journey into mushing started with a high-school report about the Iditarod. What began as curiosity quickly became a passion, leading him to learn from experienced mushers, work with sled dogs in northern and backcountry environments, and eventually build his own kennel.

Today, Gregory has 25 Alaskan Huskies and 10 years of experience behind a team. His kennel carries bloodlines including Beck, Peck, Seavey, Streeper, Cook and Santos, among others.

But for Gregory, mushing isn't just about miles or race results.

“The dogs don’t care about excuses, egos or how tough you think you are. They tell you exactly where you stand.”

And his 2027 team has some great characters:

Cello is a seasoned leader with a Yukon Quest 450, Kuskokwim 300, Odyssey 100 and Underdog 100 behind him.

Tennessee is one of Wildland’s rising stars, a confident young leader Gregory sees as a future cornerstone of the kennel.

Max is another young prospect gaining valuable long-distance experience.

And Hero and Bolt bring the kind of reliability and determination that can make all the difference when the trail gets tough.

For Gregory, this race is about more than one finish line. It’s about building the next generation of Wildland Sled Dogs and taking the next step toward longer-distance racing and eventually setting his sights on the Yukon Quest 550 and the Iditarod.

And there’s one thing you might want to watch for on the trail…

Gregory likes heavy bass and a good rhythm during those long stretches and apparently, there may even be some ugly dancing on the sled to stay warm!

Behind the scenes, Jenn, Gregory’s indispensable handler, is a huge part of the operation, keeping the dogs, gear, transportation and countless details moving forward.

Gregory may be the one standing on the runners, but Wildland Sled Dogs is very much a team effort.

Welcome to Yukon Quest 2027 Gregory and Wildland Sled Dogs!

We can’t wait to see you, Cello, Tennessee, Max, Hero, Bolt and the rest of the Wildland team on the trail in February.

This is the fun part.

We got a few small groups out on the trail today and spent some time just messing around with different pairings and seeing what worked.

With a few new dogs joining us this summer, Jenn and I have been wanting to get a better feel for everyone without a full team around them.

Today we had Cello, Tennessee, Orchestra, Hero, Bolt, Alfie, Raven, Cheeky, Honey, Max, Clint and Sky out getting some trail time.

We swapped dogs around, tried a few different combinations and got to watch some of the newer guys do their thing.

Small teams make it a lot easier to notice the little things. How a dog settles in beside someone, who matches pace naturally, who pulls a little differently, who seems more confident in certain spots and which pairings just seem to click.

No big mileage, no pressure, no real expectations.

Just trying things, watching the dogs and learning a little more every time we hook up.

This is honestly one of my favourite parts of building a team. You start with a bunch of individual dogs and little by little you begin to see where everyone fits.

A pretty fun way to spend the day.

It’s official.

Wildland Sled Dogs is entered in the 2027 Yukon Quest 300.

Today the Yukon Quest announced the first registered mushers for 2027, and seeing Gregory Williamson sitting there as one of the first names in the 300-mile field makes this whole thing feel very real.

We’re still a developing kennel.

We’re still building dogs.
Still building leaders.
Still learning what works for us.
Still figuring out exactly what kind of race team Wildland is going to become.

And now the next test is sitting right in front of us.

Approximately 500 km, or 300 miles, of Yukon trail.

This is a massive step up from the 100-mile racing we’ve done so far. It’s going to ask more from the dogs, more from us, and more from every part of this program than anything we’ve attempted under our own banner.

And that’s exactly why this feels so big.

A couple of years ago, Wildland was just an idea and a handful of dogs.

Since then, we’ve been slowly putting the pieces together. Adding dogs. Developing young ones. Learning from mistakes. Getting our first race miles. Finding out who steps up when things get hard and starting to see the beginnings of the team we’ve been trying to build.

We’re not showing up to the Quest pretending we’ve got everything figured out.

We’re showing up because it’s time to find out what this team is capable of.

Now every training run means a little more.

Every dog that takes a step forward matters.

Every leader decision, every feeding decision, every rest plan, every mile and every mistake between now and race day becomes part of getting this developing team ready for something completely new.

There’s a lot of work between seeing our name on this list and actually standing on that starting line.

But tonight, we’re going to enjoy this one.

Because Wildland just went from “one day we want to run the Quest” to:

We’re going.

500 km. 300 miles.
A young, developing team.
Our biggest test yet.

Things just got serious.

Leveling up the fall training program 👊

The days are finally starting to cool off, and more mornings and nights are turning into training weather.

And we’ve added a pretty big piece to the Wildland program, our own quad.

Last fall we were piecing things together with bikes, ATV frames and the truck to get the dogs out and moving. It got the job done, taught us a lot and helped carry us through our first race season under our own banner.

The quad changes what we can do this fall.

It means we can safely get bigger teams out at once, control the speed better, add resistance when we want it and start putting more consistent miles into the whole crew.

We might be crazy, but we’re not crazy enough to put 6, 8 or 12 dogs in front of a bike or a stripped down ATV 😂

Now the goals are bigger, the mileage is longer, and with our biggest race yet ahead of us, the preparation has to match.

A year ago we were piecing it together. Now we’re starting to build the setup we’ve been working toward.

Cooler weather. More miles. Better preparation.

Time to get back to work. 🐾
