🐴 NEW LESSON ADDED! | First Rides – Lesson 2A

Mounting With Forward Movement

Getting on a young horse isn't just about getting into the saddle. It's about building confidence, trust, and understanding, one small step at a time.

In our newest Improve Your Riding lesson, we're taking the next step after the first mount and introducing forward movement.

You'll see how we approach this progression, what we're looking for, and how Faith introduces bringing her leg alongside the horse as the horse becomes more comfortable.

Because good c**t starting isn't about how quickly you can get on. It's about how confidently the horse accepts each new step. ❤️

🎥 Lesson 2A is now available in our First Rides series!

Our Improve Your Riding community is FREE to join, with educational videos, training insights, and resources to help you become a more confident, knowledgeable horseperson.

🐴 If you could fix ONE thing about your horse tomorrow, what would it be?

Would it be the canter transitions that feel more like a launch into outer space? 🚀

The steering that occasionally seems optional?

The horse that thinks standing still is a personal insult?

Or maybe you'd just love to have a horse you can throw a leg over, relax, and actually enjoy riding. ❤️

Here's the thing. We all have something we're working on. Even trainers have horses that keep us humble!

So tell me... what's the ONE thing you'd love to improve with your horse?

I genuinely want to hear your answers! 👇

Spring rides are a lot more enjoyable when you’re looking forward to getting on your horse. 🐴

If your goal is more confidence, a better partnership, or finally getting that young horse started, winter is a great time to put in the work.

We’re starting to fill up and are confirming our training schedule between now thru spring. If we’ve already chatted, please email to confirm your start date and how long you’d like your horse to stay.

And if you’ve been meaning to reach out but have only discussed it with your horse so far, now’s a good time to include me in the conversation. 😂

Let’s give you and your horse something to look forward to this spring!

**A little milestone for Magic! 🐴**

Today was Magic’s first lope under saddle, and these are the moments we love to celebrate!

It might not look like much to everyone watching, but those first few strides are a big step in a young horse’s education.

We're never looking for perfection on the first try. We're looking for a horse that's willing to try, building confidence, and starting to understand what we're asking.

Every broke horse starts somewhere, and today Magic took another step forward. ❤️

There’s something pretty rewarding about watching a horse and rider start to come together. ❤️

Bowie has been with us at Hylee Training for a couple of months now, and it’s been fun watching his progress and seeing his confidence develop along the way.

One of my favourite parts of training is getting to the stage where we can start putting the pieces together with the owner. After all, the goal isn't just to have a horse that works well for me — it's to build a horse that works well for the person taking him home.

Here's a little clip of Bowie and Judy putting some of that work into practice!

A big thank you to Judy for trusting us with Bowie and giving us the opportunity to be part of their journey. ❤️

🐴 ROBYN | 4-Year-Old Mare | 15 HH
📍 Prince George, BC

Some horses just give you a good feeling when you swing a leg over them. Robyn is one of those horses.

She's solid underneath you, substantial without being heavy, and has that nice natural forward movement that makes riding enjoyable. You don't have to work to keep her going, but she's not trying to run out from underneath you either.

What I particularly enjoy about Robyn is how uncomplicated she feels. She's not constantly looking for something to spook at, and she has a sensible, practical way of approaching what's asked of her.

I can really picture this mare being someone's mountain and trail riding partner. She's sturdy, good-footed, and has the kind of build and attitude I'd appreciate in a horse spending long days exploring the backcountry.

She's equally enjoyable in the arena, with enough forward movement to suit someone interested in English riding or continuing her western education.

With approximately 90 days under saddle, Robyn has a nice foundation at the walk, trot, and lope. She's been introduced to a variety of obstacles, including bridges, gates, tarps, and poles.

She's an easy keeper, has good feet, and doesn't require shoes or special maintenance.

Robyn is still a young horse who will benefit from continued riding and experience, but she has a lot of the qualities I look for in a useful, enjoyable riding horse.

SNOOP | 2-YEAR-OLD C**T | 14HH

Snoop is a 2-year-old grade c**t standing approximately 14hh. He has had a few weeks of professional starting and is looking for an experienced home to continue bringing him along.

He has done some walk/trot work under saddle, can steer independently, and has been ridden on his own. He is still very green and should be considered a project rather than a broke riding horse.

On the ground, Snoop is easy to catch, ties, lunges, and is good for the farrier.

Snoop can be reactive and jumpy, so he needs a confident, experienced handler who is comfortable with young horses. He has some useful basics in place and would suit someone looking for an affordable young project to continue developing.
