Winter prep is in full swing at Tickled Pig Rescue—and this year, our focus has to be on the animals who depend on us. 💙🐷

Here’s what we’re working on:

• Bringing in 75+ bales of straw for warmth and comfort
• Building shelters for 30+ animals arriving from Baldy Hughes
• Raising funds for winter feed and straw
• Cleaning and preparing existing shelters
• Updating our website
• Completing our application to become the PG Tickled Pig Society
• Applying for charitable status to strengthen our rescue and expand our support

We’re looking for volunteers who can spend a couple of hours collecting pumpkins and delivering them to the rescue. If you can help, please reach out!

All our feed is purchased at Northern Acreage. I asked if they had records on the amount of feed we go through. During the summer months, our average was $250 a month when the animals are grazing and living off the fat of the land.

As the leaves fall and the grass stops growing, our feed bill will easily quadruple. This is the time of the year to stock up on feed, and purchase 75-100 bales of much needed straw to keep the animals warm throughout the winter.

Winter is coming and we need to move these 3 “big pigs” and a bunch of goats.

Do you have a livestock trailer?

Would you be willing to move the animals from Baldy Hughes to Buckhorn??

We have been gifted a livestock trailer. It is huge. It is amazing. We just do not have enough money, time or knowledge to get our truck wired and ready to hook up to the trailer at this moment.

Meet Ellie May! 🐷💙

Ellie May came to Tickled Pig Rescue for what was meant to be a temporary stay. Her owner told us they needed surgery and asked us to care for her for two to three months while they recovered. We agreed, expecting Ellie would soon return home. Sadly, her family stopped communicating and never came back for her.

We believe Ellie is around eight years old. She’s an independent, strong-willed lady who likes her space and prefers to do things on her own terms. She can be one of the feistier females in the herd, but we love her just as she is.

Ellie hasn’t been spayed, and her heat cycles can leave her restless, sometimes keeping her up at night. During those times, she wanders around and directs her attention toward logs, rocks and even basketballs. Yes… basketballs! 🏀

Her family promised to cover her food costs, but no financial support ever arrived. Her temporary stay became a permanent home, and we’re committed to giving her the care and security she deserves.

This winter, we’re looking for a sponsor, or two, maybe three - to help cover Ellie’s food and care. Your support would mean so much to this independent girl—and to the rescue that became her family. 💙

1 bag of mini pig feed is $21.59 and Ellie herself could use 3 bags per month from October to May. Winter time requires more feed because the pigs can’t graze on grass.

Rainy days call for indoor work! With the rain putting our shelter building on hold, we zipped out to Baldy Hughes to spend some time with the three rotund pigs.

They aren’t fond of visitors and certainly don’t approve of being touched. They’re afraid, and earning their trust will take time and patience. We’ll get there. 💙

As our visit went on, they began to relax and enjoy some good scratches. A little music and singing helped, too!

Each piggy was rolled onto their back for a much-needed hoof trim. Afterwards, their walking looked a lot less painful.

A little comfort, a little care, and another step towards trust. 🐷

Sorry… I haven’t had time to reply to messages. We are running from morning until night, working on a fencing job, and coaching/managing a hockey team. We haven’t had time to pick up any donated lumber or building materials. Our life is pure chaos right now
