Something ive learned along my rescue journey in recent months is who is reminding me of my value outside of what the world sees as my current 'productivity'.
When the world is saying "give me $10,000" but I only have $20, is that enough? Do you find the same amount of value in what i can give as I do? Or is it never enough...
I had some time to rest this week. It was so needed and so important to escape my defeated mind.
During this time, I received a text from someone whose opinion I deeply value due to their knowledge, experience, professionalism and gold standard level of care.
"Good morning. Just wanted to send a message to let you know how amazing Star is doing. She’s so happy! You have worked so hard to allow that girl to have a successful life. Proud of you!!"
I must have read that 20x over and cried.
I felt valued. I felt my efforts were FINALLY seen. I felt....relief.
That's not to say a lot of you on here dont encourage me (I had an amazing woman and supporter of the rescue, uplift me just last week in the middle of the soup and seasoning isle in Walmart, you know who you are 🩷) because you definitely do.
It hits a bit differently when a professional can see the commitment in your investment made in a dog from start to 'finish'.
She was there when we both werent in a good spot in life. She is there when we came out on the other side. She continues to be there to help us along our way.
Thank you for being a business we can undoubtedly trust.
Star completed her stay with Debbi today for the past 4 days when we were away and she came back a very happy dog. I can always trust that she provides her with plenty of exercise, training and love while we are away.
In the last few months I've gotten the privilege to see a side of Star i never have. She is starting to make new human friends and this is a big deal for the both of us.
She is slowly transforming and i do believe one day (maybe not soon because i am very picky haha) she will find a forever family that will be patient, understanding but yet supportive in her journey with the support of Debbi.
Many would have seen her as not suitable for rehoming but im so glad we've had the support and determination to keep pushing.
Quality of life matters here. For Star, and for us 🩷

Owner is wanting Mama surrendered with babies but we are ok to split them up because they are old enough.
Mama is said to be good with all people and she's just a nugget so she won't take up much room. I believe they are all currently outside and am really hoping we can get the pups skin issues cleared up before it gets worse.
We will give you crates, p*e pads, toys, food, and bedding and be there for you every step on the way!

FOSTERS NEEDED
There are 4, eight week old puppies and their mama that desperately need to come in from Sandy Bay. They currently have mange and would need to be quarantined for a few days if youre a home with other dogs.
These babies are too young to have this and if its not treated fast enough, they can get secondary infections. This can be fatal.
My best guess at mum would be a mix with terrier, boxer, lab. She's on the small side.
Pups are friendly but really need placement.
.
They can go separately or in groups of 2! Young enough to be good with other dogs and cats!
Mum is unwanted as well so needing placement for her too.
Please let us know if you can help!

FOSTERS NEEDED
We're teaming up with Nicole Sellers to help spread the word about a few babies that desperately need to come into care.
The first pup as you can see is a severe medical case. She has several open wounds all over her body and is in pretty rough shape. She currently living in an abandoned bus on the back of someone's property. Age is unknown.
The second pup is Milo and his owner is looking to surrender. I just heard that the chow chow that was living with him was shot today so Milo is also in desperate need of placement! 4 years old.
Both are good with dogs, unknown about cats. Both will be pulled from northern communities.
Please, if anyone is in a position to foster we are in dire need of getting these guys out!
We (me and daniel...not the rescue) do little things for our fosters each month whether that be a visa gift card, buying a take out dinner for your family or a fun activitiy for your kids if you need some incentive!

⚠️URGENT COURTESY POST⚠️
This 2 year old Pyrenees x Lab named Mia is needing a home immediately due to the owners moving.
Im in contact with the owner and she is said to be timid and reactive to new people at first.
She is an outdoor dog that is said to help keep people off the property.
She is not currently vaccinated or spayed but we will assist with those costs if someone takes her. (Non negotiable)
He has said that she is great with cats and dogs(needs a proper introduction with dogs).
Please reach out if you are able to give her a home. We don't have much time

We had an accident happen with our app when we installed the newest version. When the app was updated it removed our Community Spay/Neuter appilcations.
If anyone is in need, please fill out an application. It will be pinned to the top of our page.
We had one lined up for this week, however they were a no show so we are looking to get another pup in! We have updated the policy as well. Specifically adding in a "no show fee" that will be payable to the rescue and then we will be transferring that to Gladstone Vet Clinic. We are hoping that this will not be a regular occurrence or else the fee will go up even higher. We value our relationship with Gladstone and we don't want to waste their time.

This is Mr. Crashbunny and his owner Gary 🩷
7 days ago, Gary had a police officer show up on his doorstep in the Pas telling him there was a bus waiting and he had 5 minutes to grab what he could and evacuate. In a panic, he grabbed a few items, Mr. Crashbunny and left the life he had built for himself. I CANNOT imagine.
He's been at the CanadIn since and found himself uncomfortably low on his pups pain/arthritis medication. He had just recently filled the perscription but in his panicked state trying to evacuate, had left the medication at home. (Even his own personal one too)
One of the kind volunteers at CanadIn had ran to Gladstone 2 days ago and purchased a few more pills for him to get by.
When one of the volunteers heard about our offer to evacuees and their pets through Portage Online , they passed our name along and we were happy to receive a call from Gary not long after.
Gladstone Vet Clinic was super accommodating on such short notice so we rushed there to buy the remaining amount of the prescription. 53 pills.
Mr. Crashbunny is an old boy, sitting at 15 years, so we threw together a little care package for him that included an elevated cot and blanket to get him off the concrete, some snacks, toys, a few enrichment activities and some dry/wet food.
He is currently the only pup staying inside the CanadIn Curling Rink as far as Gary knows.
Let's also keep in mind that its the beginning of the month and some of the evacuees had just paid their rent, electric bill, water....whatever the case may have been. Some people have come with a pretty low bank account. Some people are on pension.
We never know what someone's situation could have been so the comments of "well they didnt leave their bank card behind, did they?" just aren't necessary.
Gary is a super sweet man who had a surprisingly positive attitude for the hand that he has been dealt. He disclosed to me that it was his 67th birthday 2 days ago and I couldn't imagine being in this position on his special day. We put together a care package for him as well with a few gifts and candles....no birthday should be without candles.
Praying for the best outcome for Gary and Mr. Crashbunny as they try to navigate this next part of their story. 🩷

This is Mr. Crashbunny and his owner Gary 🩷
6 days ago, police showed up on Gary's front door in the Pas telling him he had 5 minutes to pack what he could and evacuate as the fires were becoming dangerously close. He snatched a few items, grabbed his dog and left his life behind. I CANNOT imagine.
Gary heard about our offer through some of the staff at CanadIn here in Portage and at the perfect time as he was uncomfortably low on some pain/arthritis medication for his pup.
2 days ago, one of the volunteers had kindly grabbed Mr. Crashbunny a few days worth of his meds and today we got a call from Gary asking if we could do anything for him.
We rushed to Gladstone Vet Clinic who accommodated us on such short notice and we filled out the remainder of the prescription for 53 days.
Mr. Crashbunny is a very loveable, friendly and senior boy (15 years young) who could use a little luxury so we also dropped off a placement cot with a blanket to get him off of the cement, a variety of treats, some enrichment activities and some dry/wet dog food.
Gary is the only one currently with a pet in the curling rink and hes doing the very best with the hand hes been dealt. He disclosed to me that he also turned 67 yesterday so we dropped off some birthday presents and some candles because no one should have a birthday without candles. He is such a sweet soul that has so many stories and one that just truly loves conversation.
And before anyone gets the idea in their head that "well, they didnt leave their bank card behind did they?" .....its not as simple as that for some.
People may have just paid their mortgage, car payment, or electric and water bill and then had to vacate their home with only a little remaining from their pension.
Thank you to PortageOnline.com for reaching out and getting a side of the story that isn't commonly highlighted.
Grace goes a long way 🩷
Praying for the best outcome for Gary and Mr. Crashbunny. Hoping to stay in touch with them.
