🐾 LABOUR DAY LONG WEEKEND HOURS 🐾

As we head into the long weekend, please take note of a few changes to our hours from September 4th–7th:

🏥 Friday, September 4th
General Practice: 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
Emergency Department: 8:00 AM–10:00 PM

Our Emergency Department will be closed for the remainder of the weekend. After an incredibly busy summer of serving our community on weekends, we’ve made the decision to give our hardworking team a well-deserved long weekend to rest, recharge, and spend time with their families.

If your pet requires urgent care on Friday, we encourage you to call ahead before coming in whenever possible. This allows our team to assess your pet’s needs and best direct you for care.

🚫 Monday, September 7th
Our General Practice will be closed for Labour Day, with regular hours resuming Tuesday.

Our team is growing, and we’re looking for another Registered Veterinary Technician to join our growing privately owned general practice.

Vets Around the Corner is a busy, growing, privately owned veterinary hospital in downtown Port Perry. With five full-time veterinarians in our General Practice, we’re expanding our RVT team to ensure we continue providing exceptional care to our patients while giving our veterinary team the support they need to do their best work.

We’re looking for an RVT who is passionate about patient care, enjoys working as part of a collaborative team, and wants to be part of a practice where technicians are valued for their skills, knowledge, and contribution to veterinary medicine.

At VAC, we believe in individualized, collaborative and compassionate care — not only for the animals and families we serve, but for the people who make that care possible.

Our Community Veterinarian Program has some VERY exciting news!

We'd like to welcome, and introduce Sarah Machin, our Executive Director of the VAC Community Veterinarian Program.

Sarah joins the team bringing years of experience in community outreach, customer service and corporate communications (+ a deep love of animals and their well-being).

A client of Vets Around the Corner and member of the Port Perry community she spends her time outside of work with her family + 2 pups, playing hockey in the Scugog Women’s league and walking the Waterfront Trail (so always say hi if you see her out in town!)

Sarah will be expanding our community programs, and we will have more exciting news coming in the next couple of weeks!

704 animals treated so far from our wildfire deployment, with another week of active response ahead of us.

Help us prepare for the next emergency. Because when the cameras left, we were still there, and still are. Same with Northern Reach Network and Matawa Pets & People. And we want to be there for the emergency, prepared. But we need your help.

Weekend Emergency Service -

Our ER team is available all weekend, until Monday at 8am when the general practice team returns!

Overnight coverage is through on-call and telemedicine, with full coverage through the days with a DVM on site.

We are looking for volunteer DVM's anywhere in Ontario that are able to provide virtual care to communities affected by the wildfires. We have RVT's on site, and it would be for general wellness, vaccines and minor treatments only. While it is best to have DVM's on the ground, we are looking to utilize virtual care to supplement our team. If you're interested, please email [email protected]

Due to schedule issues, we now have no DVM from August 11th - 17th or August 23-31st. We also don't have enough RVT's from August 17th - 31st.

Today at our field hospital, we saw first hand the dire need for care. Meet Mavis, a 16 week old puppy.

Mavis' owners are members of Matawa First Nations, who are all affected by the wildfires and helping evacuees. Mavis was attacked by a much larger dog and was quickly brought into us at Matawa Pets & People field hospital. We are a field hospital. We aren't set up for traumas, but, in Thunder Bay, nobody else could see her.

Mavis quickly became very ill, and needed oxygen, IV fluids, pain medication and more. Mavis needs an ICU for suspected internal bleeding and other serious injuries, and will likely require surgery over the next week.

When we called all over the area... there is nobody equipped. Nobody with 24 hour care, which she needs.

The closest place is either the GTA, Manitoba, or into the states.

Fortunately, Boreal Veterinary Hospital in Thunder Bay graciously allowed us to bring her in for diagnostic imaging and xrays. But, she's critical.

Our only option is to fly her to Southern Ontario. Which is what we're coordinating now, with the help of Critical Care specialists at King Animal Hospital.

The cost of everything will be at least $15,000, if not more. We've told the family that we will be doing everything to save this adorable puppy.

Our work in the North has led to us meeting and working with many people in the animal industry who are all looking to support this important cause. We at VAC are grateful for everyone who has come together to help.

However, working alongside each other during emergency response is not the same as an official partnership or endorsement.
It has come to our attention that there are posts circulating on social media making false claims of partnerships, endorsements, and official requests by VAC, including potential fundraising attempts.

Because of this, we would like to be clear: Any true partnerships or endorsements would be announced by us, on our social media and/or website. If it is not on our official pages, it has not been approved by us.
