Taking the spook out of weird things humans expect dogs to tolerate! 👻

For this enrichment session, we brought out the ultimate lineup of strange human inventions: collars and harnesses, Halloween costumes, hats and bandanas, booties, muzzles, Elizabethan collars, raincoats, and animatronic toys.
We even set up right in the grooming room around the actual equipment—nail clippers, dremels, hair trimmers, and noise-muffling snoods—paired with a jack-o'-lantern full of naturally calming dry lavender. 🎃🌿

Our core goal was classical conditioning: building a positive emotional response to these items before the dogs ever need to wear or experience them.

The secret to making this work is collaborative care. Throughout the entire activity, the dogs were treated and never tricked! They had complete freedom of choice to approach, sniff, and interact at their own pace. When we give animals control and agency over their environment, we drastically reduce their stress.

Building this foundation of trust doesn't just make a single nail trim or rainy day walk easier; it makes dogs significantly more adaptable, confident, and resilient when facing new situations.

Wishing all dogs a Happy Halloween, plus stress-free vet visits and easy grooming sessions! 🐾
