Sound on! The auditory enrichment at Embark was a cacophony of new experiences! :)
We set up a "sound garden" to help the pups create positive associations with novelty. By causing the noise themselves, the dogs gained a wonderful sense of control over their environment. Every choice they made was rewarded—whether that was bravely making noise, simply exploring the props, or choosing to opt out entirely. Agency is everything!
Our noise-making lineup included:
Floor pianos (set to a low volume!)
Little xylophones
A doorbell & a pre-recorded button
Bowling pins to knock down
A pool of tin pop cans
A pool with rustling tissue paper
(Plus, a bouquet of dry Roman daisies to spread a calming scent throughout the enrichment area.)
