Meet the Lovely Ziggy! 🐾

Look at this happy face! I had the absolute pleasure of meeting this sweet pup, Ziggy, and his wonderful mom for a mobile pampering session.

Ziggy got to enjoy his full service tail trim, ear clean, gland expression and a waterless bath massage at the Heritage Marine Resort, completely skipping the stressful trip to a traditional salon!

With one-on-one attention, tail wags, and plenty of positive reinforcement, mobile care keeps pets relaxed and happy from start to finish.

Thank you for letting me pamper you, Ziggy! It was so wonderful meeting both you and your mom and wishing you safe travels! 🐶✨

On Saturday, August 22, the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society Midland and District Animal Centre is offering a Vaccination and Wellness Clinic for eligible residents of Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny, Tay, and Christian Island.

This clinic is made possible thanks to the generous support of the County of Simcoe.

📍 Midland Curling Club, 474 King St., Midland
🕛 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
🚨 New Format: Appointments are required.

🐱 Cats: 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. (by appointment only)
🐶 Dogs: 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (by appointment only)

Core and booster vaccinations and basic wellness checks are available for dogs and cats.

Clinic eligibility requirements:
• Available to residents of Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny, Tay, and Christian Island.
• Must be on a subsidized income or hold an Indigenous Status Card.
• Do not have access to regular veterinary care
• Valid ID and proof of subsidy or an Indigenous Status Card are required.

Please note:
• This clinic is not equipped to assist sick or injured animals.
• Appointments are required for all animals.
• This clinic supports pet owners without regular access to veterinary care and is not intended to replace existing veterinary relationships.

☀️ Keep Your Pets Cool: Beat the Heat This Summer! 🐾

As the temperature rises, our furry friends rely entirely on us to keep them safe and comfortable. Because dogs and cats don't sweat the way we do, they can overheat incredibly fast.
Here is what you need to know to prevent heat stroke and protect the pets in our community.

🚨 Pets at the Highest Risk
While the heat affects every animal, some pets are far more vulnerable to heat stroke and require extra vigilance:

Brachycephalic Breeds: Flat-faced pets (like Pugs, Bulldogs, Shih Tzus, and Persian cats) have shorter airways, making it much harder for them to cool down through panting.

Senior Pets & Puppies/Kittens: Very old or very young animals cannot regulate their body temperature as effectively.

Pets with Medical Conditions: Animals with underlying heart conditions, respiratory issues (like collapsing trachea), or obesity are at a significantly higher risk.

Thick or Dark Coats: Pets with heavy double coats or dark fur absorb and retain heat much faster.

🛑 Red Flags: Signs of Heat Stroke
If you notice any of these warning signs, move your pet to a cool environment immediately and seek emergency veterinary care:
* Excessive, frantic panting or loud, labored breathing
* Bright red, purple, or extremely pale gums and tongue
* Thick, sticky saliva or drooling
* Lethargy, weakness, or stumbling/dizziness
* Vomiting or diarrhea

💡 Quick Summer Safety Tips

Never leave a pet in a parked car - even for "just a minute," and even with the windows cracked. Temperatures inside can reach dangerous levels in mere minutes.

Test the pavement: Place the back of your hand on the asphalt for 7 seconds. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws! Stick to grass or walk during the early morning/late evening.

Provide endless shade and fresh water: Ensure outdoor pets have a well-ventilated, shaded retreat and access to cool water at all times.
