โ€œWhen these unique, easy to love, utterly golden facets of his personality began to dim, in conjunction with the clinical presentations of a life well-lived, I knew the time had come.โ€

When is the โ€œright timeโ€ to say goodbye to a beloved pet? Itโ€™s one of the hardest questions any pet owner will ever face & one that doesnโ€™t come with easy answers.

In her latest piece, CJ reflects on the loss of her cat, Tino, and shares an honest, compassionate look at end-of-life care, quality of life, and what it really means to give your pet a โ€œgood last day.

Why we need 48 hours (or more) to refill your petโ€™s prescriptionโ˜Ž๏ธ๐Ÿ—’๏ธ

๐Ÿ’Š Our Two-Step Verification System

After a refill is requested and approved, the medication is counted and checked by two members of our team to ensure safety and accuracy when dispensing.

๐Ÿ’Š Controlled Medications

In keeping with Nova Scotia Veterinary Medical Association (NSVMA) regulations, controlled medications are strictly monitored and securely stored. Refills of controlled medications can only be authorized and dispensed by a doctor and require one to be on site in order to fill.

๐Ÿ’Š Compounded Medication

Your pet may have been prescribed medication that has been customized to meet their specific needs, such as unique dosages, altering forms (e.g. turning pills to liquid) or adding flavours. These types of compounded medications are altered at a speciality pharmacy and are often a special order product.

It is important to keep track of your petโ€™s medication and when they will be due for a refill.

When tracking your petโ€™s medication:

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Check the upcoming month for holiday closures
โœ๐Ÿป Make a note on the calendar of when they are due for a refill
๐Ÿ“ฑ Set up a reminder in your smart phone

To ensure your refill can be properly processed, we recommend calling in your petโ€™s prescription during regular WEEK DAY business hours. Once approved, prescriptions can be picked up during regular business hours including Saturday between 9am-12pm at both of our locations.

In addition to reading the dosage instructions on the label, please pay special attention to when your pet is due for their annual visit. Similar to a human pharmacy, an annual visit with your pet is required in order to continue refilling your petโ€™s regular prescription on schedule.

If your petโ€™s prescription label reads that an exam is due before the next refill or if the month and year of when the refills expire is drawing near, we recommend booking your petโ€™s annual when you pick up the latest refill or at least 2 months in advance.

๐Ÿ“ž If you have any questions regarding your petโ€™s prescription refills, please reach out to us at (902) 625-5757
