‼️A reminder to please always put your cat in a carrier whenever you travel with them. Loose cats in cars are dangerous to drivers (especially if they get under the pedals) and if an accident occurs, your cat is likely to be injured. Cats not in kennels can also break free in the clinic or our parking lot, which is scary for everyone!

🐱Even cats that are normally confident on a harness and leash will likely be frightened at the vet clinic. Cats feel more secure in an enclosed kennel, and it keeps them, their owner, and their vet team safe!

🧡If you need to borrow a crate for your cat, we have them available to borrow for your appointment at no charge. Feel free to pick it up prior to your appointment and drop it off after your cat is safely home!

A good samaritan brought in a male intact (not neutered) brown tabby that was found by the old mall in Port Hardy. He didn't have a tattoo, collar, or microchip. If you think this might be your cat please call us at 250-949-6732

❓When did your pet last have a rabies vaccine?

🦇We have recently had a number of pets coming in for rabies vaccines after being exposed to bats, so we are wanting to remind everyone to check that their pets are up to date!

🦇Bats can carry rabies, even if they seem healthy. The virus is transmitted by bites or scratches (even ones so small you can't see them). Once symptoms begin there is no treatment, and the only way to diagnose rabies conclusively is to submit the brain for testing - not an test that can be done while a pet is still alive.
Thankfully, vaccinations can keep pets safe!

🦇Even if your pet doesn't go outside, it is still worth having them vaccinated for rabies. Bats can get inside homes, and our bats on Vancouver Island are very small, so it doesn't take much for one to sneak in!

💉 Rabies is thankfully rare in Canada (especially in BC) but that is largely due to the high pet vaccination rates and not because it doesn't exist here. There have been several human deaths from rabies over the past few years, so it is still a disease to take seriously.

For more info on keeping yourself and your pets safe from rabies:

Rabies is a serious infection that affects the brain and nervous system, caused by the rabies virus. Rabies is rare in humans and is usually spread from the saliva of an infected animal. In BC, the only animals that carry rabies virus are bats. There is occasional spread of bat-variant rabie...

Hi everyone,

We apologize for the late notice. We’ve been trying to contact everyone who had booked appointments.

Unfortunately, we didn’t receive enough bookings for our Sointula outclinic, so we won’t be able to make the trip this time. We’re especially sorry to those who were planning to stop by for the drop-in nail trims.

Our Alert Bay outclinic will still be going ahead as scheduled this Monday.

Thank you for your understanding, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

We need a few more bookings to keep these clinics running, so if your pet is due for a wellness exam or vaccines, we’d love to see you!

We are pleased to be offering out clinics again this summer! Please call to book your appointment, and let us know what your pet will be needing so we can try to bring everything required!
Pre-payment is appreciated, as it will make things easier at the out-clinics.

Sointula: Friday, July 17th
Alert Bay: Monday, July 20th

PLEASE NOTE: If you are wanting a nail trim or a**l gland expression for your pet but NOT an appointment or vaccines, we will have a set drop in period for these procedures. You do not need an appointment for this, as it will be first come, first served. This will allow us to keep the appointments for those pets needing medical care. If you book an appointment for exam/vaccines, we can trim nails and do a**l gland expression during your appointment time too. This drop in period is for people ONLY wanting nail trims or a**l gland expression.
Thank you!
