A few key things:
Don't touch bats. A bat found on the ground is sick.
Vaccinate your dogs and cats for rabies. Rabies is ALWAYS fatal and vaccination is the only way to prevent rabies.

Public health officials are hoping to get in touch with the person who handled a bat with rabies in Vancouver's Stanley Park.

This is a very difficult read, but a very important one. I've had to euthanize otherwise healthy dogs because they were a danger to people, and it is anything but easy. I try to remember that a peaceful death at the end of my syringe, with people they trust, is far better than being terrified at the end of a catch pole because animal control had to be involved.
