After clipping the nails with the nail clippers, we use the dremel tool to get the nails smooth and rounder. This removes the sharp edge after clipping and in most cases get the nail even shorter.
It is common for dogs to not like the nail clipper, it probably feels like a pinch even after the clippers have just been freshly sharpened. But most seem to tolerate and accept the dremel tool better than the clipper.
At Sudsy we use the dremel on all bath and full groom clients unless the dog is very ticklish and dislikes it a lot. On large breed dogs or those with thick nails it gets it much shorter than just clipping.
I regularly sharpen the nail clippers so the pinch they feel is minimized. I soften the sound of the handle closing with a free finger so they don't hear the click since some dogs are noise sensitive to that sound. And I regularly change the sand paper grit on the dremel so the process is fast.
Dog nail only services are performed by me and my long time co-groomer Christine. We often do most nail services together so the process is quick.
We have had a lot of positive feed back about switching to appointment only for nail services. Thank you! Please text me for an appointment for your dog!
