The Bluetrix crew headed to Cranbrook this weekend and came home with lots of points and a new champion!

The puppies showed really well and handled the busy dog show just fine. We shared the points all weekend between the puppies.

Keeper earned his first Utility Obedience leg yesterday! This deserves a huge congratulations as Utility is quite the challenge!! We are so proud!

Also, a side note- Happy 4th Birthday to Keeper and his littermates. Cake for everyone!

Elsa has had a busy summer!

A few weeks ago she trialed in CKC herding started and got herself two scores and placements! And then this last weekend trialed in NASDA lost item and shed hunt. She had a great time and nailed the lost item searches!

Did the AKC summer Classic show in Calgary. Great place, great show, great people. Fido came out with 5 points, so pleased with how both puppies handled the show and camping.

The show puppies out of the Potato/Ice Cream litters made their dog show debut this weekend!

Everyone had a great time and were well behaved, happy, and confident. One of them *may have* kissed a judge or two…

A friendly reminder starring Mercy and Dot!

Canada Day is approaching! A great day to celebrate with friends and family and all the things!

Remember that dogs don’t like fireworks. Like for real. Every year there are dogs reported missing from Henderson when people take their pets to “enjoy” the evening festivities. I assure you that your dog would be much happier at home, don’t risk it. It’s heartbreaking to hear of dogs running terrified, lost without their owners.

If you live in an area where fireworks can be heard- have a plan! A nice chewy bone to focus on, maybe a movie night in your basement, or if they are really upset some medication from the vet and a thundershirt. There are lots of options to help your dog in these situations!

Keep your pooch happy and safe this Canada day! Enjoy those at home festivities!

How many Cardigans are too many?
Asking for a friend. 😉

Corgis are addicting- like chips- it’s hard to have just one!

But- having multiple dogs (especially a strong willed breed like a Cardigan) is no joke.

Double the work. Double the training. Double the hair. Double the time. So much time goes into raising a good dog. Having multiples means you’ll be doing things like two walks (so you can focus your training). Multiple training sessions, multiple crates, all the things.

I will say that Multiple dog households sometimes are easy peasy! Everyone gets along nicely and they have thing sorted out pretty quickly. Generally there’s one dog that’s the established “leader” and that’s that.

But sometimes it’s not easy. And then it’s even more work. The problem can be that as your second dog grows up they start challenging that other dog. Or, if they felt bullied or upset by that older dog they definitely will start to defend themselves. It’s a tricky situation and generally escalates pretty quickly!

If you have multiple dogs you need to make sure that you are the clear leader. Establish rules and structure around resources and excitement. Lots of individual training but also group training too! Learn your dogs body language, and start teaching the dogs to leave each other alone or move away on cue. Don’t expect your older dogs to be the baby sitter either- thats your job.

Mostly, if you see even a hint of conflict you’ve got to immediately start changing something. The longer there are issues the harder it will be to change it! Cardigans are a clever breed, and they don’t forget stuff. Girls especially can hold grudges for a while. 😉
