Today is Veterinary Appreciation Day!

We wanted to give a shout-out to the very special veterinarians who spend their days helping our farmers and ranchers care for their livestock and provide safe and nutritious food for the world. Veterinarians and the work that they do help to safeguard food safety, food security, public health, and animal health worldwide. Each day as a veterinarian is a new adventure and there is no one we would rather be on this adventure with than the amazing women working here.

Hey!
We know that Face!

Always so wonderful to see "our people" being celebrated and highlighted for their commitment to the people and livestock in the dairy industry. Congratulations Dr. Betty-Jo!

Betty-Jo provides full-spectrum dairy cattle care, from individual medical and surgical treatments to herd health and preventive management that supports long-term animal wellbeing.

What she values most is the people—hardworking dairy farmers who inspire her every day with their dedication to caring for animals and producing safe, high-quality food.

For Betty-Jo, dairy is deeply personal. With family roots in farming, she’s driven by the industry’s role in food security, strong family farms, and the values of honesty, integrity, and hard work.

This Dairy Month, we’re celebrating the people helping move Alberta’s dairy industry forward every day. 🥛

A couple of our star veterinarians are also star hockey players. Dr. Nyomi and Dr. Emilie faced off against each other, in the Ice Melter III Hockey Tournament this weekend in Lethbridge. Judging from their smiles, it looks like they had a great time!

🎉 To celebrate the annual World Veterinary Day, this year the World Veterinary Association (WVA) Council has selected the theme “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health” to highlight the systemic role of veterinary services in safeguarding food safety, food security, public health, and animal health worldwide.

The 2026 theme recognises that global food systems are increasingly interconnected and exposed to emerging disease threats, climate-related pressures, antimicrobial resistance, and economic volatility. In this context, veterinarians act not only as animal health professionals, but as essential actors in health security, sustainable food systems, and economic resilience/sustainability.

✨ World Veterinary Day 2026 aims to elevate public understanding and policy recognition of veterinary services as a cornerstone of sustainable and secure food systems.

🛡 Veterinarians don’t just treat pets — they protect nations.

This week we are celebrating Veterinary Receptionist Week. At LVS, that means that we are celebrating Truus! She is the glue that holds our clinic together. Quietly keeping things moving, orders being put together, samples being shipped, results being released, client requests being dealt with, phones being answered and so much more background work that keeps this place functioning and allows all the rest of us to do our jobs without a second thought. It is common to hear, "Ask Truus, she'll know..." and she always does. Thank you for all that you do each day for all of us, Truus.💐

For anyone who will be dropping by the office to pick up orders or drop off samples, please come through the doors in the back. We are having some outdoor renovations in the front and it is blocked off.

Scrolling through Social Media and my brain says: “Hey! We know her! 😉”

If you are attending WCDS, don’t forget to say “Hi!” to Dr. Betty-Jo and definitely plan to attend her seminar! The LVS Calf-Start Program is pretty awesome and the results speak for themselves! Find out how you and your calves could benefit!
