Its RVT month!
Our RVT's wear so many hats and we are SO thankful for them!
Lets highlight just some of the things our RVT's do in the hospital:

🥰 Support- RVTs are always there for pets and their pets parents! We will support you through the journey of a new puppy, adult prevention, pet illness, senior care and end of life care

🥰 Anesthesia- If your pet was in for a surgical procedure an RVT was with them every step of the way. While the Dr. is preforming the surgery, it is the RVTs job to preform the anesthesia and monitor your pet to ensure they are safe and pain free

🥰 Analysis- If your pet has had any analysis done in our lab it is with a technician’s eyes! RVTs are thoroughly trained in hematology (blood) Urine and skin (cytology) analysis. This provides fast diagnosis for the Dr.

🥰 Radiology- RVTs are trained and educated in radiology and radiation safety! When your pet is in for x-rays an RVT is taking them!

🥰 Dentistry- RVTs are highly trained in dentistry. While your pet is here for a dentistry procedure it is an RVT doing the dental cleaning! While that is happening there is also an RVT monitoring your pets anesthesia

🥰 Patient care- When your pet is hospitalized an RVT is providing their primary care! RVTs take vitals when needed, administer medications, collect lab samples and provide comfort

Come with us for a dental cleaning for Jackson! ❤️‍🩹🦷When patients are nervous the comfort of a parent or loved one is unmatched, it’s the same for our pets! Jackson is a sweet boy, but gets a little nervous when needles come out(who doesn’t!) To help with this we asked his mom to stay for the beginning of his surgical morning. She was by his side for his injection and he felt her comfort as he relaxed into his sedation. This helps reduce stress immensely in our patients, and actually makes our job easier. It is a win, win! ✅If you have a nervous pet ask us about staying for sedation!🐾♥️

Did you know our pets can have anaphylactic reactions just like humans? ‼️ The most common cause is bee stings. 🐝 This time of year, yellow jacket nests are very active in the ground - this is where our pets come in contact with them! That is exactly what happened to this sweet pup named Theo. He was walking with his family in Jackson Park when he stumbled across a nest and got stung several times! His parents called us, and we were able to provide him treatment quickly! 🏥
If your pet gets stung by a bee, monitor them for signs of facial swelling, hives, pale gums and collapse, if any of these signs occur call us right away! ☎️

This little baby named Ojo thought it was a good idea to eat some cocoa powder! While this is delicious, it was not safe and toxic to our dogs! Ojo was SO brave- we induced vomiting, gave her charcoal and she spent the day with us on IV fluids. We are happy to report she did just fine and was able to go home that evening! ❤️‍🩹

While we are considered a general practice, we are a fully equipped hospital and we are still able to see your pets in emergency situations.

We are SO happy we could see Ojo quickly and get her back to being a silly pup 🐶
