Wow, what a heavy week. I’m so heartbroken for all my friends, family and colleagues who’ve been evacuated from their homes and businesses since last Friday and have been dealing with the stress of the unknown. Thankfully we have an amazing community in Penticton who have lifted them up and tried to provide some comforts in the meantime ❤️ And hopefully they can go home soon thanks to the tireless efforts of the hundreds of firefighters and first responders working around the clock.
On a personal note, this fire has brought up a lot of past trauma for me from a 2020 wildfire that had us evacuated for 12 days. We watched it burn from across the lake with all our neighbours that first night and were positive there would be nothing left the next morning. It’s a really strange feeling to think you’ve actually lost everything. And yes, waiting to go home is torture. My heart goes out to everyone affected ❤️❤️❤️
And tomorrow the Penticton Farmers’ Market is back on the 100 block of Main St! Your local small businesses are hurting from the sudden loss of tourism in one of our most critical months so please come out and support!
