Let’s talk about coat damage. In one photo you see a beautiful long flowing double coat, untouched by any clipper. In another photo you see the same dog but with a very different looking coat. This coat is damaged from being shaved down multiple times. It’s thinner, dryer, and overall just a different texture. When we say shaving your double coated dog will damage their coat this is what we mean, and honestly this is minor compared to some of the other things that can happen. Now that I’m done publicly shaming the owner of this dog and their decision you should know, I am the owner of this dog. I made an informed decision when I started clipping down Moose. It is the best option for him due to his age, skin conditions with summer allergies, and his temperament in regards to grooming. Damaged coats mat easier, grow back unevenly making it harder to regulate body temperature(so a temp controlled environment is a must), can cause excessive shedding, and leaves the fur dry and brittle causing it to break easily, and it’s dull and lifeless. Moose requires regular supplements daily to keep his skin healthy.
