An Important Update from Guinea Pig Rescue Ottawa🤎

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will unfortunately be closing the rescue. Our remaining guinea pigs are currently being cared for by our fabulous foster volunteer, who is making sure they continue to receive the love and care they deserve. 🐹

We’ll be sharing a post featuring the guinea pigs who are still looking for their forever homes. If you’re considering adoption, please send us a DM on Instagram or message us on Facebook. We ask that you share your previous guinea pig experience and include a photo of your planned enclosure so we can help ensure each pig finds a safe, loving home.

At this time, we will not be responding to messages about surrenders or donations. If you need help with either, please post in the Ottawa Area Guinea Pig Group on Facebook.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our rescue, opened their homes to foster, donated, volunteered, and advocated for these little ones. We’re incredibly grateful for the community that has stood behind us.

Our priority is finding loving homes for the guinea pigs still in our care. Thank you for helping us give them the happy endings they deserve. 🐹🏡

On August 1st, we learned that the health, safety, and well-being of eight guinea pigs were at serious risk.

All eight were living together in one small cage, forced to compete for food, water, and space. We believe they had been severely neglected and kept primarily for breeding, with little consideration for their health or quality of life.

One incredible volunteer stepped in and rescued them. Three babies were taken in by the Quebec SPCA, while the remaining five came into our care.

All five arrived with medical concerns, including untreated mites, sore paws, torn ears, and two who are currently on pregnancy watch. One guinea pig, however, was in particularly critical condition. He had been so severely picked on that he had a large, infected open wound on his back.

He required immediate veterinary care, including pain medication, medicated baths, topical treatment, ivermectin, antibiotics, laser therapy, and a cone to prevent him from irritating the wound while it healed.

We desperately need your help with his medical care. As a rescue, we rely entirely on donations and the support of our community. This little guy has already been through more than he ever should have, and together, we can give him the safe, healthy, and happy life he deserves.

Peanut is a confident and dominant guinea pig, so she’ll do best with a younger baby pig or another pig with a more easygoing personality. With the right match and a proper bonding process, she has the potential to make a wonderful companion.

Robin and Bacon came to us looking for a second chance, found love in a wonderful foster home, and have now been adopted together by a veterinarian! ❤️

Robin (red piggy) has cancerous lumps, so we’re especially grateful he’ll have such incredible care.

As the weather warms up, rescues across Ontario see an increase in abandoned guinea pigs, rabbits, and other small animals.

Many people believe these animals can survive outdoors if released. Unfortunately, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Domestic guinea pigs and rabbits rely on humans for food, shelter, and safety. When abandoned, they face predators, starvation, dehydration, disease, and extreme weather.

Small animals are not disposable pets. They deserve the same lifelong commitment we expect for cats and dogs.

Adoption Announcement! 📣

Charlie came to us in February 2026 after being surrendered to the rescue. When he arrived, he had one of the worst cases of mites we have seen. (Swipe to the last video to see). His long coat required multiple medicated baths, several rounds of ivermectin, and lots of TLC to help him recover.

After weeks of treatment and care, Charlie was finally mite-free and ready to find his forever family.

In April 2026, Charlie met Archie, and it was love at first sight. Their bond formed almost instantly and was one of the easiest boar matchups we have ever seen at the rescue. Watching them choose each other was truly special.

We are so happy that Charlie’s journey from rescue to recovery has led him to his perfect home and his perfect brother.❣️
