Some cats purr… and some cats have a little something extra to say. 💕

This big handsome guy was known around the shelter for his adorable little trilling purr - and we’re happy to report that his sweet sounds have a new audience!

He was adopted over the weekend and is officially off to his new home. 🎉

We’ll miss him and his love around here, but we’re so happy for this gentle giant and his new family. We have a feeling there will be plenty of trills, purrs, and cuddles in their future!

Happy tails, handsome! 🐾

Bandit Has Found His Forever Home! 🐾

After spending more than eight months in our care, Bandit's wait is finally over. Adopted on August 28, he has officially found his forever home after arriving at the shelter on December 27.

We couldn't be happier for Bandit and his new owner. From quiet days at home snuggling on the couch to exciting cottage adventures, we know he has a bright future ahead and many wonderful memories to make.

Long-stay animals hold a special place in our hearts, and seeing them find the right match is always cause for celebration. Thank you to everyone who followed Bandit's journey, shared his story, and supported him along the way, and an extra special thank you to Bandit's new person!

Congratulations, Bandit! We wish you a lifetime of happiness in your new home and we'll miss you! ❤️

Register your dog(s) for a swim session based on their size:

▪️4:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Small dogs & puppies
▪️5:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.: Medium to large dogs
▪️5:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.: Any size dogs welcome!
▪️6:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.: Any size dogs welcome!

Special delivery! 📦🐱

Stray animals arrive at the shelter in all kinds of ways...

Some are brought in by caring community members. Some are delivered by Animal Control Officers. Some are trapped through community cat programs.

And today?

A litter of kittens arrived in a basket. 🧺

Consider this your daily recommended dose of kitten cuteness overload. 🩷

While this may be one of the cuter methods of transportation we've seen lately, it highlights an important part of what we do. When residents find stray, abandoned, or lost animals, Animal Services is here to help ensure they receive the care, shelter, and support they need.

These little ones are now safe, warm, and getting the attention they deserve.

If you find a stray or injured animal and aren't sure what to do, please contact 905-436-3311 (even after hours!). Our team can help guide you through the next steps and connect the animal with the appropriate resources.

UPDATE: We love the enthusiasm for these sweet babies! While they are not currently available for adoption, if unclaimed during the mandatory stray hold period they will go through the usual adoption prep process, so check back in later!

Visitor Notice: Temporary Road Closure Tomorrow (August 29) 🚧

If you're planning to visit the Oshawa Animal Services shelter tomorrow, please be aware of a temporary road closure that may affect your route.

Due to Region of Durham construction work, Farewell Street will be closed at Wentworth Street/Colonel Sam Drive on Saturday, August 29.

🚗 Traffic will be detoured via Raleigh Avenue and Wilson Road South.
⏰ Please allow extra travel time when visiting the shelter.
✅ The shelter remains open and accessible during the closure.

If you have any questions about this project or tomorrow's planned road closure, please contact the Region of Durham - Works Department (by telephone by dialing 311 within regional limits or 1-800-372-1102 or visiting durham.ca/FarewellSt for more information).

Thank you for your patience and understanding, and please drive safely through the construction area.

We have the cutest little bonded pair looking for their forever home🏡

Chewy is an approx. 3-year-old neutered male and Daisy is an approx. 11-year-old spayed female. They are looking for a home together.

Chewy is a very friendly and confident young fellow. He greets everyone he meets and will roll over for belly rubs. Daisy is a little more reserved. She is hesitant meeting new people and relies on Chewy for confidence. Even though it may take her a little more time, once she gets to know you, Daisy is the sweetest little lady and loves her people.

Things to know about Daisy and Chewy:
❓Good with dogs: We think Daisy and Chewy would be okay with another dog their size. A meet and greet would be done to ensure everyone gets along.
❓Good with cats: They are untested with cats, but with a slow introduction we think they would be fine.
❓Good with kids: Because of Daisy's hesitancy with meeting new people, we think they would be best in a quiet home with no young kids.

We will be collecting multiple applications for Chewy and Daisy to ensure they find their perfect family or person. In the meantime, Daisy is in need of a dental that is estimated to cost up to $1700. We are looking to raise money to assist us with helping Daisy so she can go into her forever home with a brand new smile! We want to send out a happy Friday update and huge thank you to all our wonderful supporters! 🥰

Because of donations we have received, we have been able to help these wonderful kittens with their specific medical needs.

Flora needed a leg amputation, and Steve had a double enucleation surgery.

Both these kittens are thriving after their surgeries... and it's all because of you!
