TopDog's Mutt-e-Ssori We are Orillia's premium dog daycare and enrichment center The concept of TopDog began over 25 years ago with Kathy Currie-Eyers' dream.

She dreamt of creating a caring, learning environment for dogs. A place they could go and learn skills that would make them valued members of their families and keep them in their forever homes. With science based training, positive reinforcement and ongoing education, we have helped hundreds of dogs work through various behavioral issues, and develop deeper, happier relationships with their peopl

e. That dream became a facility in 2005, with the opening of our first location in Barrie. Since then the TopDog brand has excelled, winning multiple awards such as Barrie's Best Facility. Along with Readers Choice awards under categories of Training, Daycare and Grooming. Most recently they were honored with the Consumer's Choice award. Over the years we begin researching enrichment for dogs. That's when Topdog's Mutt-e-Ssori was born! We are a premium doggie enrichment and training facility where dog's can come to play, exercise, and learn while you work! We offer enrichment daycare, daycare based training programs, as well as group classes and individualized training and in home overnight care. We also work with our sister location in Barrie to offer full pet care services including grooming and overnight care.

We also operate Just-n-Time Rescue which is a small but loving all-breed dog (and the occasional cat) rescue that operates out of TopDog in Barrie. Since conception, Just-n-Time has helped save many dogs from euthanasia and even more find the right furever home.

Some goodbyes are bittersweet. 💛

Today we’re saying goodbye to Maggie & Maya as they head off on a brand new adventure with Dad.

It’s been such a pleasure watching Maya grow from a tiny puppy into the hilarious, spunky, quirky teenager she is today. Every stage has brought something new to smile about.

Maggie has been the perfect balance. Calm, kind, and wise, she’s been a wonderful role model in daycare and a steady presence among the pack.

We’re going to miss seeing these two golden girls at enrichment daycare and training, but we’re so excited for everything that lies ahead for them. Wishing your whole family the very best on this next chapter. Safe travels, Maggie & Maya. You’ll always have friends here waiting if you ever make your way back. 🐾💛

🚪 The ultimate test of impulse control.

Today, Finley worked through a real-life door routine that many dogs find incredibly challenging: being “left for the day” and the excitement of someone coming home.

A knock at the door cues Finley to his place, where he remains calm and quiet while I enter, get settled, and move around the room. No barking. No rushing the door. No demanding attention.

The goal isn’t for him to be released to greet me. The goal is for him to learn that calm behaviour is what earns connection. Once everything is settled, I come to him and say hello right on his bed.

This kind of training builds emotional regulation, patience, and confidence, helping dogs learn that excitement doesn’t have to take over the moment.

Way to go, Finley! 🐾

Dear Dog Dad,

I notice more than I let on.

You take your role seriously—especially the p**p inspections. I respect the dedication.

You walk me like my wingman, but we both know I set the pace, the route, and the vibe.

You’ve learned my signals, my routines, and my “urgent snack negotiations.” Impressive progress.

Belly rubs are… acceptable now. Most days.

You throw the ball with enthusiasm I don’t always return, but I appreciate the effort.

At the end of it all, you show up. Every day. That’s what matters most.

🐶 Finley | 7 Month Old Dachshund

Many of you may remember Finley! He first joined us back in February for his puppy board and train program, and now, four months later, this handsome little guy is back for a refresher course while his pawrents enjoy a well-deserved vacation. We're excited to continue building on the foundation he worked so hard to create!

🐾 Luna | 4 Month Old Large Breed Mix

This spicy little lady keeps life exciting! 🌶️⚡ Luna is full of enthusiasm, moves at lightning speed, and absolutely loves to play. She joins us for safe socialization and age-appropriate training as we help her channel all that puppy energy into valuable life skills and confidence.

We're thrilled to welcome back these two familiar faces after four years away!

• Winston, a 6-year-old Puggle
• Tyki, a 7-year-old Yorkie

These boys have returned to enjoy our enrichment daycare program, and we couldn't be happier to have them back with the TopDog family. Watching former students return always feels like a reunion, and we're looking forward to making many more memories together! 💙

In a world of wagging tails and endless stimulation, the real skill isn’t going harder — it’s learning how to power down. ⚡🐾

Large group daycare environments can turn the excitement dial all the way up, sometimes past what a dog can comfortably regulate. Without intentional structure, that arousal can spill over into behaviours like:

* over excitement and elevated arousal
* fixating, pulling, barking or lunging at other dogs (“I need to meet everyone right now” energy)
* pacing and restless wandering
* whining and vocal pressure
* spinning or repetitive movement patterns
* demand barking
* constant need for human input, attention, and engagement

That’s not “bad behaviour” — it’s an overwhelmed nervous system trying to stay afloat in a busy world.

This is why REST isn’t a pause in our program… it is the program.

Our structured rotation teaches dogs how to come down from the high:

* how to actually rest, not just pause movement
* decompression in a safe, predictable space
* that not every moment is social, interactive, or training time
* how to tolerate “not your turn” without escalation
* that we don’t meet every dog or every person we see
* and most importantly, how to settle their own internal dial instead of relying on constant external stimulation

Rest is where regulation grows.
Rest is where impulse softens.
Rest is where real confidence starts to form — not in the chaos, but in the calm that follows it. 🐾🌿

Because in enrichment daycare, we’re not just building excitement…
we’re teaching dogs how to come back down from it.
