This is your annual reminder about what to do when finding baby hares:
Yes, the tiny bunny-looking baby sitting alone in your yard is probably supposed to be there. Mama hares do not run a daycare. They leave their babies tucked away during the day and return in the early morning and evening to nurse them.
Baby hares are basically tiny panic attacks with fur. They are extremely stress-sensitive, and too much handling or attention can seriously harm them.
So if you find one, please:
✅ admire from a distance
✅ keep pets and kids away
✅ let it pretend to be a lawn ornament
Please do NOT:
❌ pick it up
❌ cuddle it
❌ chase it
❌ bring it inside “just overnight”
A quiet, still baby hare is usually doing exactly what it’s supposed to do.
If the baby is visibly injured, has been caught by a cat or dog, or you’re truly unsure, give us a call before intervening.
Thank you!
