Some acts of kindness are just too sweet not to share.

Meet Isla, who recently spent a whole day running a lemonade stand and decided to donate the proceeds to HSOMH. She raised an incredible $240!🍋

When it came time to celebrate her generous donation, Isla chose to take her photo with Tiny, the rabbit. We think she made a pretty great choice!

Thank you, Isla, for using your creativity and kindness to make a difference for animals in our community. Looks like we have a future Humane Hero on our paws🦸‍♀️🐶

We’re kicking off a new series introducing you to the people behind our Animal Services team, important education and services they bring to the Town of Oakville, the behind-the-scenes of calls they respond to, and the important work they do every day to help animals and keep our community safe. 🩵

First up, meet Officer Schlaepfer! 👋
We caught up with her on the way to respond to a raccoon call, and put her through a few rapid-fire questions so you can get to know her a little better!🦝

Meet Buttons!

Who can resist this kitten?! She's as cute as, well... a button!🥹

She is the type of kitten that observes before she realizes she wants to join the fun. One thing is for sure, food is the way to her heart! Her favourites are soft tube-type treats like Churus and there isn't much she won't do for them. A good snack is how Button learns her friends from her foes!

Buttons is looking for an understanding, quiet home with no young children that will give her the time she needs to settle in. She just needs her perfect family to build her trust in them and help her build her confidence! Routine, gentleness, and patience (and some really good treats) are all Buttons requires to flourish!💌

If you think you have the ideal home for this sweet-natured feline, apply to adopt Buttons today!

Remi’s Happy Tail!

Remi (previously Woody) has settled into this new home wonderfully! He’s gets along great with his new big brother, Oli. When they aren’t playing, Remi is either fast asleep getting premium grooming from Oli, or finding toes to nibble from his favourite humans. 😆

Morven, Remi’s adopter, also wanted to share that their adoption experience with HSOMH was absolutely fantastic, as everyone they spoke with was wonderful!

Congrats to Remi and his great forever family 🩵

POV: your camera roll if you volunteer at HSOMH📸

A little behind-the-scenes look at what happens when you give animal lovers a camera and access to this many adorable faces. 🥹

A huge thank you to our incredible volunteers who not only give their time but also help us showcase the personalities of the animals they spend time with. Your photos help these animals shine and can even help them find their perfect match. 💙

Think your camera roll could use a few more furry faces? We’d love to have you join us!

Meet Telly!💌

Telly will capture your heart just as soon as you lay your eyes on her! With her quiet, sweet disposition and her pretty calico markings, this kitten will have you wrapped around her tiny paw!

Telly is on the shy side and likes to take life at her own pace. She will often prefer to be nearby but just keeping an eye on things at first. As soon as you bring out a wand toy, though, it's tough for her to stay out of the action! Telly has a playful spirit and can't resist the thrill of the chase!🤭

Telly has lived with cats before and would likely do well with a gentle, confident feline companion who can show her the ropes and help her come out of her shell! If you feel your home is just right for Telly and you have patience and commitment to help her settle in and then thrive, apply to adopt her today!

Field Call Friday! 🦆

On a hot August day, HSOMH Animal Services Officers responded to a call about four newly hatched Mallard ducklings stranded in a backyard.

Dad was able to fly to safety, but the ducklings faced a long and dangerous journey to the nearest water source, with predators nearby. After several attempts to safely capture Dad (who ultimately made his great escape! 🦆💨), our officers carefully captured the four ducklings.
Our Registered Veterinary Technicians gave them a clean bill of health, but without an adult to guide them, they weren't yet ready to survive on their own.

The ducklings were transferred to a wildlife rehabilitation facility, where they can grow strong, learn the skills they need, and eventually return to the wild. 💚

Good luck, little ones!

Meet Corey!

Corey is a sweet 2-year-old boy who warms up quickly and is happiest when he knows he’s got some friendly faces around. He’s food-motivated, loves praise and gentle attention, and is a very good boy when it comes to grooming.

Corey is still working on building his confidence in new environments and will need a patient family who can help him feel comfortable as he finds his footing. He can be a bit of a flight risk when given the opportunity, so his new home will need a securely fenced yard with no tiny escape routes. We don't know what Corey is training for, but can he ever squeeze through the tiniest gaps?!🙂‍↔️

He’d do best in a quieter neighbourhood away from busy streets and could potentially live with another well-matched dog or a dog-savvy cat with proper introductions. He’s also looking for a family who is excited to continue his training, including housetraining.

If you’re looking for a sweet companion to help grow in confidence and become the best version of himself, Corey could be your guy. 💙
