Weight is a vital parameter for all of our patients. It helps us ensure accurate medication dosing, monitor overall health, and detect subtle changes over time—often before clinical signs appear. Even small fluctuations in weight can give us important insight into conditions like metabolic disease, chronic illness, or pain.

That said, we know that for many pets, stepping onto a scale can feel unfamiliar and a little scary. That’s why we’ve made several changes to make the experience as stress-free as possible. Our scale is lowered into the floor to eliminate the need for stepping up, and we’ve added a non-slip surface for better footing and confidence. We also use plenty of treats and positive reinforcement to create a more rewarding experience.

In addition, we incorporate calming tools like Adaptil pheromone bandanas and diffusers to help reduce fear, anxiety, and stress.

These small adjustments go a long way in helping your pet feel more comfortable—because even routine steps like weighing should be a positive experience. 🩵🐾

As many of you know, Dr. Mac, her pony Chester, and her pups Monkey and Maple headed down to Aiken, South Carolina for a cross-country training boot camp.

Her favorite part of being an equestrian has always been the bond she shares with her special little pony, and this trip was a perfect reminder of that. She feels incredibly lucky to have been able to enjoy a vacation with her dogs by her side while spending every day at the barn doing what she loves most—spending time with her animals!

Dr. Mac is now home safe and had an amazing time! Here’s a little video of some of the fun she and Chester got up to. 🐴💙

You may have noticed that your dog gets a bandana when they come to the practice—here’s why!

These bandanas are lightly sprayed with Adaptil, a synthetic version of the natural calming pheromones that mother dogs release to comfort their puppies. While humans can’t smell it, dogs can detect it and often find it reassuring.

By using Adaptil bandanas, we’re adding another gentle, stress-reducing tool to your pet’s visit. It helps promote a sense of calm and can reduce fear, anxiety, and stress (FAS) during their time with us.

It’s just one of the many steps our team is taking to make visits as positive and comfortable as possible for our canine patients 🐾

We’re proud to be featured as Fear Free Practice of the Month and to share an article highlighting the philosophy behind Mac Animal Clinic and how we’ve built our practice around Fear Free principles.

At Mac Animal Clinic, Fear Free isn’t a protocol—it’s embedded into our workflows, team training, hospital design, and culture.

We’re incredibly grateful to have a team who genuinely believe in the Fear Free mission and are deeply involved in each patient’s care. It’s this team-based approach that allows us to make every visit as Fear Free as possible.

When our patients don’t have their own fur coat, we provide the cozy sweater 🩷

This sweet little Sphynx came in for a dental procedure today. Since she doesn’t have her own fur coat, Dr. Mac borrowed one of Millie Mac’s outfits to keep her warm and cozy during her procedure 🐾
