CONGRATS Spirit for your forever adoption! 🎉

We got contacted about a 5 day old orphan foal who sadly lost it s mom and needed help. Only imagine what trauma the baby held. 💔 We instantly knew who would fit… While we offered another weanling, and or broodmare (who has accepted foals not hers before) Spirit was chosen. Upon arrival he INSTANTLY accepted the foal and knew exactly what was going on.

Spirit has always been an extremely emotionally present pony who has always loved to take care and gently play with our foals. If we couldn’t find him in the big field, we just had to look for the foals. 😅 Sometimes not being a riding pony brings a much more important purpose in life. “Spirit just fits in so well around here! He gets along with my older guy too. Hes the little puzzle piece thats been missing. He is just the most amazing”. As tears of joy and proudness fell reading this message from the new owner.

Thank you for being so amazing Spirit we will deeply miss you and I m excited for a visit soon once you ll be running in the pastures with your new soulmate! Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the new owner for loving him for the special star he is. Spirit, thank you for being part of my rescue for many years and teaching us so much you re a hero 💙

When the ponies head to the 80acres field at our friend, I like keeping track of them! We utilize a dog tractive collar that is attached to their necks with 2 light weight breakaway dog collars. We usually switch them ponies every 1-2 weeks and any changes to the pasture, we put them on the leader. This system allows us to: ensure the horses did not escape the fencing (we get a notification if so), know where they have done throughout the day, it also notifies us how long they have been at a certain spot so we can know where their favourite grazing spots are, and lastly it allows us to find them when we head out to see them! The collar lasts 2-3 weeks without charging and has done super even in the -40 degrees (we usually have to warm it up every second day for 15”).

This system allows our young ponies, companion ponies, and any other who might not be in a training’s program to enjoy the freedom of life and be a horse!

Second endurance ride of the year!!

What a roller coaster …
Teddy was successful at finishing an intro 10 mile! He was very fresh upon the start but I was so grateful we can also hand walk/ run to help our horses so we did for 3 miles. He finally settled into his crazy moves and went along with an occasional opinion along the way. The most impressive thing was he was barely sweaty compared to others and FINISHED it while over half the group pulled up lame. While camping away and the environment can trigger them a lot, it was nice not to fry his brain and I will happily bring him to the next level next time as per everyone s recommendations of doing a 25 - stay tuned
Always remember with young horses braking things into smaller steps helps them for a lifelong success!

Of course I also had to challenge myself into riding my friends horse into a 50! He sure kept it FUN with his goofy energy tossing things and bucking away with his goofy energy. 25 mile was ridden in the most pleasant conditions of heavy wind, and rain … he fully finished his second 50 mile and I could not be more proud of him very impressive. Way to go Mickey and his owner for trusting me true the journey.
2nd place 🎉

To end my coming two years old joined the adventure and had a chance to learn all about camping and did phenomenal!! He had lots of training opportunities around camp and I couldn’t believe how he handled the energy around. So connected! So proud of my boy!!! thinking he will be the future star in the club, he certainly already is in the youngsters!! It was incredible to wake up seeing him so happy.

Sadly not many pictures were taken from this adventure due to the cold and crappy weather conditions

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms out there!!! 💜🩷💜🩷💜🩷💜🩷💜🩷

“To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in it s perfect power.” Legend had a very unique bound with his mom Esperanza. He was pretty lucky to enjoy our lovely mustang Goose (bay) as well who adopted him instantly when his mom went true an extremely hard time upon intake and had to be put down. Luckily a miracle came across his path and his mom made it true and shocked our vet.

Show your mom extra love on this special day 💝 maybe every day!? 🥰

Teaching young horses to drive is an excellent skill!!

I often feel that people think driving means you have to teach them to pull a cart. While that s a lot of fun, I personally often use it as a new skill to learn to help prep them for riding. Driving helps teach them lots of things such as:
- confidence going forward while having someone in a different position. This is a huge factor as often horses freeze of flight when you get on them for the first time as they get lost where they need to place their feet.
- desensitizing to ropes everywhere
- steering
- vocal cues
- stopping
- backing
- bending
-… and so much more!

My favourite place to teach them is on trails where the answer of going forward is easy to find - it sets them up for great success. :)
Starlight picked up on the idea very smoothly and even did some trotting to make our 14mile loop go by a bit quicker. He was having lots of fun with this 😅.

HE DID IT!!!

8.5 hour drive! Starlight end I ended up doing an intro of 13.5 miles (0.5extra taking a detour by accident once). We ended up on the orange loop (see picture) which was the most challenging one! This pony was an absolute saint all weekend and handled the stressful environment like it was nothing. Leaving camp was a bit of a challenge but his opinions created wonderful trainings opportunities. He had a chance to practice long distance on almost non stop hilly terrain, seeing horses on trail without being able to play with them, see cows, desensitize on many noisy windmills and drink from scary throughs, learn how to drive at different speeds, be patient at the vet/ do trot outs and much more! Video s will be posted tomorrow 🙂 Of course he had to become everyone s favourite and be the star at camp! Yes, I did pack him up with anything I could find to make the hike even better 😆 Thank you to the SK endurance club for this awesome experience for our lucky pony.
