Happy to be able to help out and another great blood donor clinic held by the Canadian Animal Blood Bank at the in Brantford.
Great Pyrenees are universal donors and we ate double happy to have some -ve type in our pack as well!
These events are beneficial not only for the souls of our dogs, but save lives and get our crew their heartworm/lyme tests too!
We know first hand how important canine blood availability is - this makes this task something very dear to our hearts and prioritizes it for us.
Thank you CABB - we are honoured to be able to help.
Mother and children, Stachio, Indie and Ichaod.

Why the name “Great Pyrenees” or “Pyrenean Mountain Dog”?
This.
This is why.
Bred to travel the Pyrenean Mountain ranges alongside their assigned flock of sheep, these agile giant dogs are fearless in tackling terrain.
Unlike some breeds, the rear double dewclaws they have are mobile, functioning, toes. They aid in balance and removing them can result in structural issues.
These dogs are not as heavy as their thick coats portray, since at higher altitudes lighter bodies function better, and they must be able to navigate steep mountainside trails.
Our crew like to keep to their roots.

There are many livestock guardian breeds - and we are often asked how we can tell them apart. To us there are lots of differences for most, but this has come from experience - you too can start to discern the breed differences 🙂

Tuesday Training Tip - There are over 35 breeds of livestock guardian dogs worldwide. The most common breeds in Texas are Akbash, Anatolian Shepard, Great Pyrenees, and Maremma. Let us know your favorite breed!

As some of you are likely aware, Katie loves to learn and read about new things - especially genetics. As such we wrote a little intro to help understand genetics and how they work…

Quick lesson on understanding genetic inheritance.

Morning vibes.
We are getting up to go shovel snow for work, and golly do they make it hard to get out of bed >_< Great Pyrenees, although they do LOVE the snow, also love to sleep in in the mornings. They would be much more inclined to stay outside all night and sleep through the day; unfortunately, this schedule is not conducive to most living/working situations. Mind you, when James is working nights, the pack is IN THEIR ELEMENT on his schedule.

This time three years ago we were raptly watching ten new additions to our family while we waited for the call from the vet’s office to pick up Stacio. There had been complications and as a result she was spayed, but by late morning we were meeting her (with the babies) at their office to bring her home.
There nay have been some sleeping with her/them on the floor of the exam room while we waited for her to come to full consciousness… we love you guys so much.
Now our darlings are thriving in their new homes, and we could not be more happy for them. With jobs ranging from loving house to pet to reliable working dog (and everything in-between) we are so proud of this litter.
So, many happy returns our precious children, we love you so much and know only good things await.

Well. Makes us a bit happier that we use bigcountryraw as our purchased raw source.

Our flag is at half mast for this Canadian treasure. We will miss watching for updates on her career and will substitute with re-watching favourites such as Best in Show (the BEST documentary ever), Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas, and and Schitt’s Creek.
Rest well you clever, clever, lady.
