As schedules fill with classes, activities, work, and errands, grooming appointments can be easy to forget.

A regular grooming schedule helps keep your dog’s coat, nails, ears, and skin cared for before small issues become bigger ones.

TEETH BRUSHING

Your dog may not be asking for fresher breath, but everyone standing close to them might be.

Teeth brushing can be added to a grooming appointment as part of your dog’s regular care routine.

It helps freshen the mouth and makes dental care feel like a normal part of being handled.

At home, regular brushing with dog-safe toothpaste is also a great habit.

Human toothpaste is not made for dogs, even if your dog insists they have excellent taste.

SKUNKED? WHAT NOW? PART 6

Most skunk encounters are more smelly than dangerous, but heavily sprayed dogs should still be watched closely.

Veterinary guidance recommends monitoring your dog for one to three days after a heavy spray, multiple sprays, or possible ingestion.

Contact a veterinarian immediately if your dog becomes unusually tired, weak, loses interest in food, continues vomiting, or appears unwell.

If your dog was bitten by the skunk, seek veterinary care immediately and make sure their rabies vaccination is current.

The best defence is prevention. Use extra caution in the yard around dawn and dusk, keep garbage and pet food secured, and block access beneath decks and sheds.

How often should your dog be groomed?

The answer depends on their breed, coat, lifestyle, and how much brushing happens at home.

Our doodle, for example, needs a Full Groom every four to six weeks. If we stretch it much longer, we can quickly find ourselves dealing with tangles and mats.

Dogs with longer or continuously growing coats often need a consistent schedule to keep their skin and coat healthy and comfortable. Short-coated dogs may not need haircuts, but they still benefit from regular baths, brushing, nail trims, and ear cleaning.

The easiest way to stay on track is to join a Grooming Membership, which includes one Full Groom every month.

You can also book your dog’s next appointment before leaving the shop. That way, the appointment is already secured before your busy schedule fills up.

SKUNKED? WHAT NOW? PART 5

Can we help after your dog has been skunked?

Please complete the first washes outside before bringing your dog into the Groomerie.

We ask that your dog be washed a few times first using an appropriate skunk odour product. Then call us before coming in so we can discuss what has been done and whether we can help with the lingering odour.

Please do not bring a freshly sprayed dog directly into the shop.

Your dog may need more than one cleaning, and some odour may return when the coat gets wet.

SKUNKED? WHAT NOW? PART 4

Skunked in the middle of the night with no special shampoo nearby?

Veterinary sources do provide a homemade option using three percent hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dishwashing liquid, but it must be handled carefully.

It should never be used around the eyes. It may lighten dark fur and bleach clothing or towels. It must be mixed fresh, used immediately, and never stored in a sealed container.

When possible, use a commercial skunk odour neutralizer and follow the product directions carefully.

When in doubt, call your veterinarian.

TIDY ADD-ON

Sometimes your dog does not need a full haircut. They just need a little freshening around the edges.

Bath & Brush members can add a Tidy for $20 on the day of service. A Tidy includes trimming around the face, feet, and f***y.

Clean coat. Neat paws. Fresh face. Much less fluff in places where fluff does not need to be.
