RCRA Rider Highlight: Hazelle✨

Hi my name is Hazelle and I’ve been riding at the Rcra for a bit over a year! When I was little I used to love watching horse shows and dreamed that I could ride one day!

Fast forward to last year I joined the RCRA and fell in love with one of the lesson horses Blazer. Blazer made me absolutely fall in love with the sport and riding at the RCRA💓

From March till now I’ve been extremely lucky to get to ride Skittles and him bring back my love for this sport along with my confidence.

I love riding at RCRA because of the amazing staff and the welcoming environment! I love getting to grow as a rider with Skittles by my side and being cheered on by my coach Leslie! I love getting to ride every week and look forward to my lessons with Skittles getting to see all the horses I love and riding.

My future goals as a rider are to grow my confidence and continue to improve.

An open letter to our community,

What a whirlwind weekend we just had at RCRA.

Congratulations to all the entries and their teams who competed in this Sunday’s cup classes. All the horses were turned out beautifully which is a true reflection of your hard work and dedication to get them to this point.

I took the day to think about making a post about some of the events that transpired here and realized most of the Ontario horse community likely already knows. This weekend there was a substantial number of foreign objects that do not belong in horse footing. A number so large that it’s hard to believe that there was not foul play. This is an arena we use daily for our boarders, lesson students and ship in clients. There can be things found in the footing at any facility that do not belong but not to the level seen here over the weekend.

I must thank everyone at RCRA as well as exhibitors from the show that were so helpful to find and remove these objects. Prior to show time on Sunday, we repeated the process of dragging the footing and running magnets over the freshly turned surfaces four (4) times to ensure that the footing for all equines and handlers was as safe as possible which is no easy feat in an arena of this size.

RCRA is taking even more steps to ensure safety and have purchased more magnets to use with our machinery while doing ring maintenance and will be sure to have it on hand for our dressage show this weekend, the cup classes in October and all our future events. Security cameras will also be installed in key areas.

RCRA Rider Highlight: Quinn ✨

Hi, my name is Quinn. I’m 12 years old and I have been riding at RCRA for 3 years now. Ever since I was young, I have loved being around all sorts of animals. A few summers ago my parents had discovered the RCRA summer camp. I went and after that I never wanted to leave! A couple months later I started doing lessons. I fell in love and instantly knew I wanted to be an equestrian.

I absolutely love RCRA because it feels like a second home to me. The horses, the people, and the memories I’ve made there have all become such an important part of my life. Every time I’m at the barn, I feel happy, comfortable, and at peace. I’m so grateful I can have a place where I can ride, learn, and spend time doing something I truly love.

For my 12th birthday my parents told me I was going to start leasing my favorite horse, Cassie! I am so excited to start a new journey with her. My goal for 2026-2027 is to compete in the RCRA in-house show with Cassie doing the small cross rail course. During my lessons, I have been jumping a lot more and I enjoy it so much. I can’t wait to create new memories at RCRA.
