🥺 Someone just needs to take a chance on Poppy.

At only 3 years old, this sweet girl has already faced a mast cell tumour. 💔 But there’s good news: it was removed, showed no signs of spreading, and had low-risk, less-aggressive characteristics. Her prognosis is favourable with routine monitoring. 🩷

Now, all Poppy wants is what every dog deserves: a soft bed, a loving family, and someone who sees the dog—not the diagnosis.

She’s mellow. She’s affectionate. She’s hopeful. And she still has SO much love to give. 🐾

After seeing our No Hot Pets campaign, Elinor wondered what her city was actually doing to protect animals left in hot cars. The answer led her to city hall, and this summer, London has a new bylaw with a $300 fine for leaving an animal in distress in a vehicle.

Beautiful, energetic, and full of personality! 💕 Salem is a 2-year-old Australian Shepherd mix who is always ready for her next adventure. Whether it’s exploring, playing, learning, or simply being by your side, this sweet girl wants to be part of the action! 🐶✨

Salem is looking for an active family who can match her enthusiasm and provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, and opportunities to keep her busy. She’s smart, eager to learn, and would love a family who will continue helping her learn and grow.

For now, Salem would do best as the only animal in the home, where she can soak up all the attention and focus she deserves. ❤️

After 139 days in our care, Scrappy has finally gone HOME!

We’ve watched this goofy, ball-loving boy wait patiently for his person, and after everything he’s been through, we just KNOW the third time is the charm. ❤️

Our team is going to miss his silly ball antics, his goofy playful energy, and that big Scrappy personality more than we can say. But as much as we’ll miss him, there’s nowhere we’d rather see him than exactly where he belongs—home.

This gorgeous 5-year-old American Bulldog may be a little shy at first, but don’t let that fool you.

Moka takes a little time to warm up to new people and places, but once she feels safe, she transforms into the sweetest, most affectionate, and loyal companion. The patience you invest in earning her trust will be rewarded with a best friend who loves to be by your side.

Our weekly update on the wildfire response in Northern Ontario.

While no new fire activity or evacuation orders have come through in recent days, the past two weeks have displaced thousands of people, and our teams remain committed to supporting pets and families as their needs evolve.

Last week, Ontario SPCA teams supported 111 animals at our Northwest Animal Centre and clinic in Thunder Bay, including 21 spay/neuter procedures and 62 vaccinations and wellness exams. We also transferred 31 dogs south to free up space for animals impacted by the fires, bringing the total transferred since evacuations began to 53. Another 2,000 lbs of pet food went out to families in need.

Got long weekend plans with your furry friend? Whether you’re hiking, camping, or cottaging, a little prep goes a long way.

Hitting a trail? Keep them leashed and check for ticks after. Dogs get sunburnt too, especially around the nose, so ask your vet about safe sunscreen before you go.

Camping means picking up waste every time and watching for wildlife your dog might want to investigate a little too closely. Out on the water? Get them a life jacket that fits. Even strong swimmers tire fast once the waves pick up.

New places bring new distractions, so make sure your dog's collar has ID and they're microchipped. A dog with perfect recall at home can still wander off somewhere unfamiliar. And if you're making stops along the way, remember cars heat up fast, even with the windows cracked.
