It looks a lot less like a kennel… and a lot more like a little vacation with a family. ❤️

🐾🍂 WHAT DOES “BLOWING COAT” ACTUALLY MEAN? 🍂🐾

You’ve probably heard groomers say, “Your dog is blowing their coat!” But what does that actually mean? And how do you know if your dog is just normally shedding or if they’re ready for a good deshed?

Let’s break it down! 👇

🐶 NORMAL SHEDDING

All dogs shed. A dog may leave a little hair on your furniture, bedding, clothes and floors year-round.

With normal shedding, you might notice:
• A small amount of loose hair coming out during brushing
• Some shedding when you pet or rub your dog
• Their coat still feels relatively full and healthy
• There isn't a huge amount of undercoat coming loose

That's completely normal! 😊

🍂 SO… WHAT DOES “BLOWING COAT” MEAN?

When a double-coated dog is blowing coat, they're shedding a large amount of their old undercoat as their body prepares for the next seasonal coat.

You'll often notice:
✨ Tufts or clumps of loose undercoat
✨ Hair coming out in handfuls when you brush
✨ Fur collecting everywhere — seemingly overnight! 😂
✨ A thick, fluffy undercoat that is releasing large amounts of dead hair
✨ The coat may look uneven or “fluffy” as the old undercoat loosens

This is when a professional deshedding treatment can make a BIG difference.

🛁 WHEN IS A DOG READY FOR A DESHED?

If you're finding yourself thinking, “WHERE IS ALL THIS HAIR COMING FROM?!” 😂 — your dog may be in the middle of a coat blow.

A proper deshed isn't simply giving your dog a bath and brushing them a little.

A professional deshed uses the right bathing, conditioning, drying and brushing techniques to help loosen and remove the dead, shedding undercoat that's ready to come out.

The result?

🐾 Less loose hair around your home
🐾 A cleaner, healthier-feeling coat

🍂🐾 WHY IS MY DOG SHEDDING SO MUCH?! 🐾🍂

If your house suddenly looks like it’s growing a second carpet made entirely of dog hair… welcome to fall shedding season! 😂

As the seasons change, your dog’s coat changes with them. Many dogs shed their lighter summer coat and begin growing a thicker, warmer coat to prepare for the colder months ahead.

🍁 Why is fall prime shedding season?

Your dog’s coat is responding to changes in daylight, temperature, and seasonal conditions. As their summer coat starts to release, all that loose undercoat needs somewhere to go!

And this is where regular grooming makes a BIG difference. ✨

🛁 A professional bath + blowout can:
• Remove a huge amount of loose, dead undercoat
• Help prevent that loose hair from ending up all over your house
• Reduce tangles and matting caused by shedding undercoat
• Help keep the skin clean and healthy
• Allow us to properly assess what’s happening underneath all that fluff
• Help your dog transition into their winter coat more comfortably

🐶 And remember: shaving isn't the answer to shedding! For most double-coated breeds, the goal is to properly remove the loose undercoat while preserving the coat that naturally protects your dog from both heat AND cold.

Starting now, clients will receive $10 OFF their next grooming appointment when they return within 8 weeks of their previous appointment.

Why 8 weeks? Because keeping your pup on a regular grooming schedule has SO many benefits! ✂️🐾

✨ Less matting – Regular appointments help prevent those tight tangles and painful mats from building up.

✨ Better undercoat maintenance – For my double-coated pups, regular grooming helps keep that loose undercoat under control and reduces excessive shedding and buildup.

✨ Shorter grooming appointments – When coats are maintained regularly, there is generally less work to do, which can mean a faster, smoother grooming session.

🐾 A LITTLE REQUEST FROM YOUR GROOMER! 🐾

If your pup just had a grooming appointment with me, please consider booking their next appointment before you leave! 💕✂️

My schedule has been filling up 1–2 months in advance, which is amazing and something I’m incredibly grateful for! But it also means that when my regular clients wait until their dog is really needing a groom and then message me looking for an appointment, I often end up trying to squeeze them into an already-full schedule.

And if I’m being completely honest… that has been contributing to a pretty serious case of groomer burnout. 😅❤️

Keeping your dog on a regular grooming schedule helps everyone:

🐶 Your pup stays comfortable and mat-free
✂️ Grooming appointments are usually quicker and easier
🛁 Your dog becomes more accustomed to the grooming process
