“But I only give my beardies fruit as a treat”. Here’s the problem with that… They cannot process sugars. At all. They simply would not encounter fruit in their natural environment so their bodies aren’t made to properly digest it. Even small amounts can lead to increased parasites loads, tooth decay, and more. Why risk it? Here is a list of approved flowers that can be used as treats instead. 🌺 🌼 🦎

🐉 Does your bearded dragon LOVE bugs but HATE greens? 🥬
We’ve all been there! Some beardies quickly figure out that if they refuse their salad, eventually the bugs come out.
So, where do you start?
🥬 Offer a fresh salad every morning.
Even if they don’t touch it, keep offering it! The goal is to give them the opportunity to eat their greens regularly.
🪳 Cut back on the bugs.
If your dragon knows that refusing their salad means getting bugs instead, they may simply hold out for the bugs. Adjust their feeding routine so they have more opportunities to eat their greens and veggies.
Every dragon is different depending on their age, life stage, activity level and individual preferences, so there isn't one perfect approach for every beardie.
Our stubborn boy Charles is a perfect example. We rotate between plain greens, dried flower toppers and bee pollen to keep things interesting. He knows he isn't going to starve, and eventually he gives in and eats a full salad. 😂
🥗 Some greens to try: • Collard greens
• Mustard greens
• Turnip greens
• Endive
• Escarole
• Arugula
You can also offer other veggies 1–2 times a week depending on what your dragon likes.
Our dragons personally HATE cucumber and kale, but absolutely love:
🌶️ Bell peppers
🌼 Dandelions
🎃 Squash
Everything should be offered appropriately and in moderation.
⏰ Try different times of day.
Some dragons are more interested in food at certain points in their daily routine. You may need to experiment with when you offer their salad.
✨ Try a topper.
Bee pollen, dried flowers or a reputable bearded-dragon salad topper can sometimes make greens much more appealing. You can find options through places like Amazon, Etsy or a trusted local reptile supplier.
🪳 Still refusing? Try making the greens part of bug time!
Use your feeding tongs to get their attention with a favourite bug. You can place a small piece of green alongside the bug or offer the greens first while they're already interested in eating. Some dragons will eventually realize that their salad isn't so bad!
Chop everything into small, manageable pieces and experiment with different greens and vegetables until you find what your dragon enjoys.
💚 The biggest thing is consistency.
Don't give up after a few refused salads. Keep offering fresh, appropriate greens and give your dragon time to learn that salad is part of their regular diet.
And remember — every beardie is different! What works for one may not work for another. 🐉💚

September update!
As of today the 9th we have 4 ball pythons pending adoption:
Jennifer, Nellie, Juice & Norm.
We still have Coco, Margot, Scar, the boas & Dale for adoption. We had 2 surrenders this month, 1 ball python and 1 bearded dragon who are both in quarantine for 90+ days☺️☺️

We have 6 ball pythons, 3 boas & 1 crested gecko available for adoption right now!!

The ball pythons dont have many special requirements, each one is different personality wise.

The boas are simply boas.
Kodak is a special case where he needs space in a 6ft enclosure/grow tent, he is very food motivated but great to handle and likes the outdoors.
Bonnie is very cage defensive, but great and sweet once shes out. We use a tap training ball to let her know we aren't food before handling as she hits food pretty hard. Needs a larger enclosure as well when adopted.
Nymeria is a smaller girl, but gets nervous. We've had her outside, around the house and near kids and she has never bitten but is very fast and may strike out of fear.

The crested gecko, Dale is extremely flighty, nervous and fast. He is handleable for me, but will jump/run away very fast and can get lost. He is suitable for someone who doesn't have any cats or dogs (in case of running) and someone who knows how to work with a gecko who wasnt handled for his first 4 years of life.

***
We have 1 ball python Jennifer who is pending adoption & 1 crested gecko C2 who is pending adoption who will both be officially adopted at the end of this month!!
