Happy International Cat Day!

Kitty cats are like snowflakes - you will never encounter two of the same. Each animal has a unique personality, and while they can get into trouble from time to time, the comfort and love they provide us is oh so special. If you have a cat, or two, or five at home, give them a treat and some extra loving today!

Something we may not think about since humans wear shoes is the temperature of the ground we're walkin' on during the summer heat.

What are some signs your dog might be telling you the ground is too hot?
1. Lifting feet, hopping, limping
2. Licking and chewing feet
3. Redness and blisters
4. Refusing to walk or seeding shade/grass

Even on a 25 degree day, walking on the sidewalk can reach dangerously high temperatures for your pups paws. It is best to walk and exercise your dog in the morning or evening when it is cooler, or stick to shaded areas with grass or soft ground.

HELP PLEASE! We are being absolutely inundated with requests to help cats and kittens living outside that need safe places to go. We desperately need folks willing to help in any way they can. Can you foster 1 adult cat? A cat with kittens? Just kittens? If you are willing and able to help with some socializing that would be amazing too, and it is extremely rewarding. If you can't foster, please consider donating to help us provide for them. Food, litter, flea/deworming meds and vet visits for those that aren't doing well when we take them in are adding up faster than we can keep on top of it. It's the time of year where temperatures outside will heat up an unattended car in just a few minutes. Even on a 21 degee day, a car will climb to 34 degrees in just 10 minutes. When in doubt, leave your pet at home!

BIG NEWS, please read and share, it's about spaying and neutering your pets! KAAP would like to thank the Osprey Community Foundation for their trust and support of KAAP's community work. The foundation has awarded a grant to help KAAP assist low income pet owners to spay/neuter their cats and dogs. If you, or someone you know, can't afford to fix their pet, please e mail us at [email protected] and we can help some with the cost. The Osprey Foundation is dedicated to serving Nelson, and Areas E and F.
We are already drowning in kittens and there are so many more needing help. The only way to curb this is to spay/neuter and not contribute to the overpopulation or hand out free kittens that may or may not ever be fixed/cared for. Please help us make a difference!
