When I started planning this Dennis Hambling Benefit, my initial goal was to raise $10,000 to help out Dennis and his family over the holidays while he continued with his cancer treatments (which left him unable to work). But, it turns out Dennis is a popular guy and has a lot of friends who rallied to support him through this journey. I even received numerous donations from people who live out of province who don’t even know Dennis, but felt the need to help based on their own experiences with this sh!tty disease.
We had 168 teams who showed up to rope. THANK YOU to each and every one of you for doing so, it was a lot of fun!
Between his treatments, Dennis showed his appreciation by hand making 2 gorgeous display mirror/buckle holders for the champion header heeler of the roping (not sure how he completed these so quick 🐌).
These mirrors were absolutely stunning and took a lot of work. Definitely the highlight prize of the evening.
Champion header and heeler also took home beautiful buckles sponsored by long time friend and Circle C supporter Manness Rope Horses (Bill and Val Manness).
2nd place header and heeler each won hand made leather shaving kits donated by Shawn Hughes Leatherwork.
3rd place header and heeler each received a high quality Kailani cooler donated by Ensign Drilling (Cory Jacobson)
Full results/payout in the picture below.
To date, AS A COMMUNITY we have raised $34,775+ for the Hambling family (I do not know the exact amount as I didn’t get a chance to count the donations in the cookie tin before handing it over). Great work everyone!!
Also, I didn’t do this for me, to make myself look better or to get more ‘likes’ on Facebook. I simply felt the need to help out a great guy and his family going thru a speed bump in life like we all should do.
I really appreciate all of the messages, donations, silent auction items, businesses that stepped up to sponsor and support from everyone who pitched in to help make things run smooth or simply showed up to bid on items.
It won’t be long before Dennis & Beelzebub (his 30+yr old horse) are back in action taking your money at the local team roping jackpots.
