When I started planning this Dennis Hambling Benefit, my initial goal was to raise $10,000 to help out Dennis and his family over the holidays while he continued with his cancer treatments (which left him unable to work). But, it turns out Dennis is a popular guy and has a lot of friends who rallied to support him through this journey. I even received numerous donations from people who live out of province who don’t even know Dennis, but felt the need to help based on their own experiences with this sh!tty disease.

We had 168 teams who showed up to rope. THANK YOU to each and every one of you for doing so, it was a lot of fun!
Between his treatments, Dennis showed his appreciation by hand making 2 gorgeous display mirror/buckle holders for the champion header heeler of the roping (not sure how he completed these so quick 🐌).
These mirrors were absolutely stunning and took a lot of work. Definitely the highlight prize of the evening.
Champion header and heeler also took home beautiful buckles sponsored by long time friend and Circle C supporter Manness Rope Horses (Bill and Val Manness).
2nd place header and heeler each won hand made leather shaving kits donated by Shawn Hughes Leatherwork.
3rd place header and heeler each received a high quality Kailani cooler donated by Ensign Drilling (Cory Jacobson)
Full results/payout in the picture below.

To date, AS A COMMUNITY we have raised $34,775+ for the Hambling family (I do not know the exact amount as I didn’t get a chance to count the donations in the cookie tin before handing it over). Great work everyone!!

Also, I didn’t do this for me, to make myself look better or to get more ‘likes’ on Facebook. I simply felt the need to help out a great guy and his family going thru a speed bump in life like we all should do.

I really appreciate all of the messages, donations, silent auction items, businesses that stepped up to sponsor and support from everyone who pitched in to help make things run smooth or simply showed up to bid on items.

It won’t be long before Dennis & Beelzebub (his 30+yr old horse) are back in action taking your money at the local team roping jackpots.

Sorry for the delay, results and pictures from the Dennis Hambling Benefit roping/silent auction will be posted tomorrow morning. I just got in the door and am sorting a few last minute things out.

I think it’s safe to say it was a huge success!

Today is the day for the Dennis Hambling Benefit roping and silent auction!!

**In person cash donation box for Dennis will be at the announcer’s booth with Beth and Rachel. FYI they’re heavily armed, don’t try anything silly**

I will not be able to get all silent auction items posted as they’re still rolling in. However, here is a few more that came in yesterday.

Custom made wooden bench from KD Kreations (bench will not be there, this way the winner can pick their stain colour of choice) $300 value

Ritchie Equine water bowl and hoodies from Brett Smith ~ All’s Well Services $1,500 value (brand new, still in the box)

Handmade pottery set from Gloria Black $ priceless

If you have items for the silent auction, I’ll be there by 3:00pm onward, feel free to drop items by anytime after that. Hoping to have everything set up (by the concession) taking bids by 5:30.

Roping will not start before 6pm. **Please wait for the barrel racing to finish before overflowing the arena with rope horses, unless you want to be kicked by someone’s ignorant mare named Princess**

Silent auction will close after the awards presentation or 11:00pm (whichever comes first). If you bid on an item and win but head home to go to bed, you’ll be contacted tomorrow for payment, no problem.
**Bid/win an item and ghost me (not pay), you’ll be publicly shamed**

Dennis Hambling benefit roping at High River Ag, details as follows:

-Entries open at 5:00pm, will not rope before 6:00pm (might start later, depending on barrel race running before us)
• #11.5 slide - no caps
•P1/D1 $150 (enter up)
•CASH IN, CASH OUT. NO EXCEPTIONS. HIT UP THE ATM ON THE WAY, THERE IS NO ATM ON SITE
•2 hd progressive, top 20 will rope 3rd steer
•+/- 1 second per number on your TOTAL time on first two runs (4 seconds max +/- either way)
•50% payout to ropers
•40% of pot to Dennis
•10% stock charge
•5 second barrier
•Flagged on heels
•15 second cut-off in each of the first two rounds if more than 200 teams
•Global card required to rope and can be purchased onsite, but please arrive early so you’re not holding up the show.
*I could say I reserve the right to adjust your number or rat out your successes to get your number bumped, but I don’t care what your number is and I hope you win almost as much as Dennis is going to. Whatever number is on your current Global classification is what you’ll rope as. Global gets paid to number you, not me so I won’t be taking on that headache. I don’t want to hear complaining about young kids whipping your ass and how I should raise their numbers. Call Global and complain about them or practice harder*
(There I said it)

This is going to be a great evening to help out our friend Dennis and his family. Any help pushing cattle, running the chute or stripping ropes would be appreciated.

Mama Sue Malin will be there with burgers and hotdogs if you get hungry and the concession will also be open.

I’ll post a list of silent auction items in another post.

See you there!

The amount of support flowing in for the Dennis Hambling benefit roping/silent auction has been incredible! I will not be able to get all of the donations listed individually before Wednesday and will have to start making some lists. Another great item donated by the Hamilton family.

This Tod Slone Team Roper was won by the late Billy Hamilton as the 2003 Canadian Team Roping Champion. It was a personal favorite from his collection—the one he chose to pull cinches on when there was real work to be done or a steer to be caught.

Billy’s family is offering this saddle today in the true spirit of the cowboy way: one hand reaching out to help another. It’s being donated to support a fellow cowboy navigating a tough trail, just as Billy would have done himself.

About the Saddle:
• Craftsmanship: A genuine Tod Slone, built to last a lifetime.
• Size: 14 1/2" seat with a 7" gullet.
• Utility: It’s a versatile fit that sits a horse right, whether you’re backing into the box or out checking cattle in the big pasture.
• Heritage: A championship trophy saddle that was built for work, not just for display.

We hope that whoever takes this saddle home rides it with the same pride and heart that Billy did.

Don’t forget to come bid in person and to bring cash. 100% of proceeds go to Dennis and his family. Thank you to the Hamilton family for this precious saddle you have donated.
