Every year on January 24th, animal lovers celebrate Change A Petās Life Day, which is a special day for encouraging people to adopt shelter pets and raise awareness about vulnerable animals in need. Here's what our friend Angela has to say:
I started fostering about 15 years ago because for me it hurt my heart to see so many animals suffering.Ā Since then, I have fostered more puppy litters and dogs than I can count and every single one has left a special mark and impression on my heart. Fostering and placing these vulnerable animals into safe and loving homes allows them to begin their healing journey and take their first steps toward their new lives. Itās a safe place to decompress, heal their wounds, socialize with other animals safely and begin basic training. This process can take a week or months depending on their circumstances but for me itās been worth every moment. A foster parent can learn about the animal in a normalized home environment and help assess what type of forever home they would thrive in best to help ensure success after adoption. Fosters are volunteers and every time they open their door to an animal in need it allows wonderful organizations like the Victoria Humane Society to say yes and save more lives! I have learned so much about compassion while volunteering with the Victoria Humane Society. I hold their director Penny Stone and all the volunteers in the highest regard. TheirĀ dedication and willingness to take on some of the toughest cases while working tirelessly to help as many animals as they can is remarkable.ā
Ā The VHS slogan, ālet the love beginā is perfect for what they do. They state that āitās up to all of us to write new endings for the sad stories, to change them to happy ātailsā of rescue and re-homingā and I couldnāt agree more. I believe we can all do something positive, big or small to create a ripple effect of change for these vulnerable animals.
