Hey UKC fanciers, just a quick update on HCDF. Our application for provisional license has been submitted. UKC has "club" meetings monthly to review applications, and hopefully our application will be reviewed later this month.

The first step is to get approval to host a "match" for Conformation; essentially UKC wants to ensure we know how to do show paperwork correctly, which of course we do having hosted UKC events in the past. Once that is done ( I hope we can get a match in before year end) then we should be able to get our license. HCDF is then required to hold an event within 18 mos.

Looking ahead to 2027, our interim committee has been looking at possible dates; most likely early fall of 2027. Our neighbor clubs in AB are excited for us to get going in BC. At the recent Mountainview Canine Assoc. show a few weeks ago, I talked to many exhibitors about bringing HCDF back to life, and they're excited too!!! We're already making a short list of potential judges!!!!

Hey UKC fanciers! Just a quick update. We had our second meeting last night, and HCDF is now ready to submit our Provisional licence application to host events in our fair city of Nanaimo! Already we've had discussions about what events we would like to offer in addition to Conformation. Once we get our approval, we can start planning in earnest!

For those new to UKC, it's a good idea to read the rules. Regarding WHO can show dogs in UKC: HANDLERS IN UKC EVENTS
United Kennel Club events are intended to be family-oriented recreation for owners of UKC registered
dogs. Accordingly, UKC encourages the promotion of the owner/breeder handler and prohibits the
use of professional handlers in conformation.
Section 1. Persons Allowed to Handle Dogs in UKC Conformation Events. The following
categories of handlers are allowed:
• Owner or co-owner. The owner or co-owner of a UKC registered dog may enter and exhibit
his/her own dog in UKC events. In addition, the following immediate family members of an
owner or co-owner may enter and exhibit the dog; spouse, parent, step-parent, child, step-
child, sibling, grandchild, in-law. Professional handlers who own UKC registered dogs may
exhibit their own dog(s) in UKC events.
• Breeder. The breeder and/or their immediate family, of a UKC registered dog may enter and
exhibit that dog in UKC events, even if the breeder is not an owner or co-owner of that dog,
provided that the breeder-handler is not a professional handler.
• Designated handler. Any individual who has been given permission to do so by a registered
owner or co-owner of a UKC registered dog may enter and exhibit that dog in UKC events,
provided that the designated handler is not a professional handler.

Fans of UKC, in and around Nanaimo; it's happening! HCDF is back in action and in the process of getting licensed to host Conformation and Performance events; bringing UKC back to BC! It's a bit of a process after a hiatus, but we know there are plenty of folks looking for something new and different to do with their dogs! Let us know what performance events you're interested in, and whether you'd like an indoor or outdoor event! Our neighbors to the west in AB have 2 new clubs that have both hosted a winter and summer show in 2025, and doing the same for 2026! They're excited to hear that UKC will hopefully be coming back to VI. Looking forward to your support for this fun venue!!!!! In addition, to support HCDF, we will need lots of fundraising to make this a viable project! Looking forward to hearing from you!
