Take to the Trails with Melody: Hugo, Frankie, Aio, Opie, Lily, Wilma, Max, Dakota & Remy

Have you ever tried to herd cats? Me either... but I bet it feels a lot like today did. 😂

Everyone was going in different directions, at sp*ed... Except Opie. Apparently, he left his turbochargers at home today. Even Hugo was running around up front!

No sooner had I texted Sarah, a friendly walker we often share the trails with, to see where she was at, than we spotted her up ahead. My message may or may not have included the word "chaos." 😬

She patiently waited and enjoyed the show as I got the hooligans pointed in the same direction and gathered off to the side.

And here's where they impressed me! Despite only putting leashes on two of them, the whole crew held their sit/stays beautifully and waited patiently for Sarah to pass.

Apparently, they can behave themselves when they put their minds to it!

We should have some very tired dogs today. I'm not sure where they found all that energy, but I'd quite like to borrow some for next week! 😂

Today was good happy high energy pack! Everyone started out checking out Taco, as he is usually in the south pack. But today I was not the only happy one to have him join us. He brings a great fun energy, and everyone enjoyed that.

I was super excited with Dunkin today 🤩 He can be a little more shy and reserved, but not today! He decided after a few minutes into the hike that he and Lenny would be best friends. Lenny is my wild girl, who loves to live life to the fullest on every hike 😂 And today Dunkin decided he wanted to be apart of that. They played the entire time until we got all the way back to the van.

Rocket and Jet also decided that their new bff should be Taco, so those 3 spent a lot of time burning off all the energy they have (which is a LOT!!) lol Layla took turns going back and forth between the groups, as she lives a good time….so she made sure she didn’t miss a thing. Bailey and Dixie enjoyed everyone at different times. Bailey definitely let us all know if Dixie was enjoying her self to much with the other dogs 😆 She likes to voice her opinion….one of the reasons I love her 😉

Take to the Trails North with Tara 🐾 River, Tilly, Kippin, Maui, Rocky, Brontë and Allie.

This pack is a pack that really like to always all be close to each other, they will even wait for each other if someone might be taking to long sniffing something lol We were all super excited to have our beautiful Brontë back with us today. She has been off traveling for the last few weeks.

Brontë was also just as happy to be back as we were to have her 🥰 As there is a couple new additions to this pack since she had been gone, she quickly found out that she had some admirers 😍 Rocky, Kippin and Pixel were all loving her as much as she was loving them.

This group is a group that knows that when my phone comes out for pictures it’s go time! They are such a funny group 😆 Anytime I try to take a pic of just a couple of them, they all RUSH to be in the picture. This is a treat driven group for sure! Which really makes for a happy crew. There are a few extra group pics as I really didn’t have a say in it 🤷🏼‍♀️🐾❤️

What a beautiful day!! We went for a climb, and added another route to David's repertoire.

I have to be honest, I was a little worried to see the watering hole at the top is STILL dry. We might be packing around enough water to look like camels come next summer.

The crew had a great time! Everyone was so full of energy. I think George covered twice as much ground as everyone else, zipping around.

Finnigan managed to get p*e AALLLL over his head. I forgot about his knack for putting his head right where the rest of the pack are p*eing... Sorry Mom! 🫣

They're here!! 🎉

Our 5-year anniversary hoodies have officially arrived, and Rua was kind enough to model one for us! Technically in my kitchen, but this background looks so much nicer 😂

I'll be working on getting all the orders sorted over the weekend, and they'll be ready for pickup or delivery next week.

If you requested pickup or delivery outside of our regular pack hike routes, we'll be in touch to coordinate.

A little care tip: To keep your hoodie looking its best for as long as possible, we recommend washing it inside out in cold water and hanging it to dry rather than putting it in the dryer.

And keep an eye out, we've got a little competition coming up involving our anniversary hoodies!

We have a new face joining us out on the trails! Welcome David, our newest Hike Leader 🐾

David was born and raised here on Vancouver Island and has spent much of his free time exploring the local trails, beaches and everything else our beautiful Island has to offer.

He's a lifelong animal lover and dog owner, who describes animals as having always been at the heart of his world and his best friends. ❤️

His professional background is in community support, working alongside individuals with disabilities. He brings a caring, patient approach to his work and believes in treating every dog as though they were his own.

He's already been out on a couple of training hikes with me, learning the ropes, getting to know our dogs and putting his handling skills to the test. So far, he's doing great, and the dogs seem to agree!

David will be joining us as a regular hike leader on our North route once he's completed his training.

We're excited to have him on board! Please join me in giving him a big Kuri K9 welcome! 🐕🌲

Take to the Trails with Melody & David: Sara, Katie, Dakota, Rua, Aio, Tui, Loki, Penny & Journey

Day two of training with David! Once again, the dogs took to him immediately, and we spent plenty of time chatting about handling techniques, canine behaviour, and all the little things that go into successfully managing a pack.

Of course, there's only so much you can learn through conversation, and luckily, the trails were happy to provide some real-life practice!

We'd barely gotten started when we encountered a woman walking on her own, followed shortly by another pack of dogs. To make things even more interesting, there was a second pack directly behind us, and a couple of their dogs decided to come up and say hello to ours.

The trails certainly weren't wasting any time giving David some real-world experience!

David and the dogs handled the whole situation beautifully. Everyone stayed calm, we navigated our way through the various encounters, and carried on with our hike without any fuss.

We also got some valuable hands-on practice around handling with our resident spicy boy, Loki 🌶️ He's always happy to provide a few learning opportunities!

A little update from behind the scenes:

Unfortunately, we've had a bit of a bug making its way through the team this week.

Shae bravely showed up this morning to try and complete her shift, but it quickly became apparent that she'd be much better off tucked up in bed recovering!

With Michael away on holiday and David still in training, we're having to make the unfortunate decision to cancel some hikes while we look after our team and give everyone a chance to recover.

Anyone directly affected by cancellations will receive a text message through our client portal number.

We really appreciate everyone's patience and understanding, and hopefully we'll have the whole team back on their feet soon! 💜

Take to the Trails North with Tara 🐾 Nellie, Layla, Kate, Lenny, Maple, Tux, Auzzie and Beau.

I would like to start with today was one of the funnest hikes I have had in a long time. My face hurts from laughing and smiling ☺️ This group truly had the absolute best time out there today.

Today was the second time I have hiked Auzzie and Beau, last time they were a little shy, and kind of just stuck to hanging out with each other. Well today was a totally different story! I wanted to make sure they felt safe with me, so there was lots of happy praise as well as extra treats for anytime they came to check in with me without asking. They had the time of their lives out there today, and they made me feel great as they both constantly kept coming to check in with me. They also decided that they REALLY like a good scratch….i think my nails come in handy sometimes.

My crazy girls as I call them…Lenny and Layla had so much fun chasing each other through the forest playing tag with each other. The best part was when little Nellie joined in the fun, she may be small but she can give them a run for their money. She was feeling feisty today….us was so cute! Kate also decided she wanted to be part of the girl gang today, she is fast!! Lenny and Layla were super happy to play with her today.

Tux and Maple were with me today after not seeing them for quite sometime. They were happy to hang out with me today as they both know just how to get a couple extra treats out of me 😉 They both had a super fun day with this group. There was literally just fun to be had by all of them. I look forward to next week with this crew 🥰

A big welcome to our newest Hike Leader, David!! 🎉 I'll have a proper introduction post up soon, but in the meantime, I think the dogs have already given him their stamp of approval!

Usually, when we're training a new Hike Leader, there are a few dogs who remain firmly glued to my side, a little unsure about following someone new.

Not today!

These guys took to David immediately, following him around as though he'd been leading their hikes for years.

At one point, I ducked off for a quick nature break. David called the pack to come with him, and the only little faces left staring back at me belonged to my own dogs 😂

Apparently, loyalty has its limits!

When I emerged from the bushes, I discovered that David had already gathered everyone together and was practicing a group photo. Entirely on his own, with no guidance, on his very first day!

I think we're going to like this guy! 🤩

Over the next three weeks, David will be learning the ins and outs of leading a pack, with plenty of guidance from me and, of course, our four-legged teaching assistants. Once he's finished training, one of our regular North Pack Hike Leaders!

As for the dogs themselves, everyone was on their very best behaviour, so there isn't too much mischief to report.

Unfortunately, big Di'Ya managed to break a nail during the hike 😢. He was a very brave boy (although I'm not sure he'd agree!) while I snipped off the piece that was left snagging. We had a big snuggle afterward to kiss and make up, so I think I've been forgiven...

Fingers crossed he's feeling better soon and doesn't have to miss out on too many adventures.

All in all, a pretty fantastic first day for David, and I couldn't have asked for a better crew to help welcome him aboard!

Take to the Trails North with Tara 🐾 Loki, Rosie, Banga, Fossi, Nya, Ellie, Ari and Otto.

Today’s pack was a little changed up from the normal Monday Pack. And I was lucky to have been able to have Ari today. I was a little nervous as she is SO little, but she showed me 😂 She has no problems at all keeping up, or having the best time she can!

We are still enjoying this beautiful weather ☀️ Especially me lol I don’t think the weather really matters to any of them. They are there for a good time, and a good time was definitely had!

I hadn’t had Loki is sometime, so that was extra special, as he will be moving out of town soon. So we were all very happy to have him. Banga had a good time chasing him around today.

Nya and Fossi were happy to be back together 🥰 And we can’t forget Otto, who had lots of fun with sisters Rosie and Ellie. We covered a lot of ground on today’s hike. I wasn’t even at the end of the road and I could hear some of them snoring 😴 Best sound ever!
