🎃👻 OUR ANNUAL PUMPKIN CARVING PARTY! 👻🎃

Things are getting a little spooky at Benson View Veterinary Hospital! Our team traded in their stethoscopes for carving tools to show off their pumpkin masterpieces!

From spook-tacular creations to some seriously silly faces, we had a gourd time getting into the Halloween spirit!

🚧 ROAD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE 🚧

Please be advised that with the current road construction you will not be able to get to the clinic turning from Bowen road. To get to the clinic you will need to take Shenton Rd on to Kenworth Rd.

If you have an appointment with us, please plan ahead and allow yourself some extra travel time! We want to make sure you have plenty of time to arrive safely and avoid feeling rushed.

We’re happy to announce that starting October 8th, our clients will now have access to an after-hours teletriage service.

If you’re ever unsure about your pet’s health or what to do when our clinic is closed, this service gives you access to professional veterinary guidance after hours, helping you determine the next best steps for your pet.

When our doors are closed, help is still available!

We’re excited to offer this additional resource to help provide peace of mind and support for you and your pets when you need it most. 🐾

🍂🦃 THANKSGIVING LONG WEEKEND HOURS 🦃🍂

We’ll be taking a little break over the Thanksgiving long weekend! Here are our upcoming clinic hours.

HOLIDAY HOURS
Friday, October 9th: Open 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Saturday, October 10th: CLOSED
Sunday, October 11th: CLOSED
Monday, October 12th: CLOSED
Tuesday, October 13th: Open 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Don’t forget your pet’s medication and food!
Please make sure you order any prescription medications, special diets, or food your pet needs before the long weekend. Give us plenty of time to prepare your order!

THANKSGIVING PET SAFETY REMINDER
While sharing Thanksgiving dinner with your family can be tempting, some holiday foods can be dangerous for our pets.
Foods to keep away from pets include:

• 🧅 Onions, garlic & other members of the allium family
• 🍇 Grapes & raisins
• 🍫 Chocolate
• 🍬 Xylitol-containing foods and sweets
• 🍺 Alcohol
• 🦃 Fatty foods, gravy & rich leftovers
• 🦴 Cooked bones
• 🍞 Raw yeast dough

And remember—turkey bones and scraps from the dinner table are not a safe treat! When in doubt, stick to your pet’s regular diet or a pet-safe Thanksgiving treat.

Inspiring the next generation of animal advocates!

Recently, Dr. Large had the wonderful opportunity to speak with a group of amazing campers during their careers week where they explored different professions in animal welfare.

Dr. Large shared what it's really like to work in veterinary medicine—from the journey to becoming a veterinarian, to what a typical day looks like, some memorable moments from the profession, and both the rewarding and challenging parts of caring for animals. The campers also came prepared with thoughtful questions, making for a fun and engaging discussion!

We love being able to connect with our community and encourage young people who are passionate about animals. You never know—one of these campers could be a future veterinarian, veterinary technician, or animal care professional!

A huge thank you to BC SPCA Nanaimo for inviting us to be part of such a fantastic week. We hope we inspired a few future animal healthcare heroes! 🩵🐾🩺
