Agriculture in the Classroom is a industry-supported initiative designed to work in partnership with Newfoundland & Labrador (NL) educators. Agriculture in the Classroom is intended to help NL children increase their awareness and understanding of why our food system is essential in society. We participate in many events throughout the year such as Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month, Rooting for

Health, Amazing Agriculture Adventure and Trade Shows. AITC-NL's Little Green Thumbs (LGT) and Little Green Sprouts (LGS) programs are in 112 schools across Newfoundland and expands every year. The Little Green Thumbs program aims to help young people value the health of themselves, the environment and their community through active participation in a classroom garden. The grow kits, soil and seeds form an indoor garden that complement learning concepts such as where food comes from, how to grow healthy plants, sustainable food systems, community interdependence and nutrition in fun, interesting and relevant ways.

🌱Little Green Thumbs is a learning process. While you're growing, you learn what works and what doesn't. Students learn about patience, responsibility, and growing their own food right in their classrooms! πŸ₯³

Lots of learning has been happening in our Grade 3 Garden. πŸͺ΄
Over the Easter break, some of our plants got a little too much water πŸ’§ and then recently our timer got switched and some of our plants got a little burnt from too much light!! β˜€οΈ

But- we are learning and moving forward! We have some really successful salad mix and kale, some cucumber and tomato plants started and some herbs that we are looking forward to trying!
