We have put things out to our customers internally about the events here at the building over the last few weeks, however, there are too many people out there who are being misinformed so we feel its better to have the correct information out there to everyone .
Starting with Bow. We had not previously sent out any communication on this at the time for the privacy of the staff member and owners of the dogs involved.
Then a post started to circulate on social media with a lot of misinformation from a family member of the owners. We attempted to post a clarification on social media however that resulted in people threatening us and the post having to be removed.
Because Bow's parents were in the front porch when this happened, Bow was rushed down to her parents to take to an emergency vet. This was an unfortunate accident that occurred at the time of pick up .
It is not the case (as circulating) that we didn't immediately contact the owners or arrange for veterinary care.
Our General Manager, was notified immediately and came to the building right away. Although it doesn’t replace Bow, there was an agreed upon compensation that included , vet bills , cost of a new puppy,the trip they were just on , activities they did on their trip , etc.
Even with all of our internal safety procedures and training, unfortunate incidents can still happen anywhere. In addition to reviewing and emphasizing the importance of safety procedures with our staff, we will be taking additional safety precautions.
In addition to the numerous doors, gates, and fences already in place, we will be setting up additional barriers.
We have been in contact with our training facility to improve our intake questions and assessments.
If anyone would like further clarification or more details, we are always transparent with our clients, to the best of our ablity, having respect for the privacy of others where necessary.
Secondly, Crystal, we have an area at the bottom of our back steps that is purely just for walking from inside to another fenced in part of the yard. The gap between the gate and the fence here is barely big enough for an arm to fit through .
We do have a rule that if dogs are in the yard then staff are in the yard . Again in this case the staff was in the yard with Crystal and walked up the stairs and when she looked back to make sure Crystal was following her she saw her bum going through the small gap between the fence and the gate .
Immediately staff was trying to get her and even had a hand on her at one point but she is fast and flighty and ran into the tall grass behind our building where we have been looking for her ever since .
We never ever thought a dog would get through an area we can barely fit an arm through . It is barred off now and temporarily boarded up until we put something else there.
We have asked multiple times about putting a second gate outside of the inside one, however, the city won’t let us do it because of a fire code regulation. So within what we are allowed to have we have made it as secure as it can be .
Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinions. The staff here are animal lovers & there should be no reason why people have to tear them down. We can only improve and fix things we know about. Everyone here at Repuplic is devastated over this situation and we hope everyone understands that we do everything in our power to make this the safest facility for your pets. The staff are trained , we have changed our procedures and added steps to further enhance safety, but some people on social media can be so cruel without knowing all of the facts.
We are all still actively searching for Crystal & are offering a reward for her return.
