Did you know, Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) in Ontario do much more than assist during appointments?! 🐾

🐾 Meet Your Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) 🐾

RVTs are regulated animal healthcare professionals.
To become an RVT in Ontario, individuals must complete an accredited veterinary technology program, successfully pass a national licensing examination, and maintain their professional registration through continuing education and professional standards.

RVTs are highly trained professionals that are accountable for the care they provide and are committed to delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care.

When your pet visits our clinic, an RVT may be the first healthcare professional to assess them, gather important information, and help ensure they receive the best possible care.

Their training allows them to perform a wide range of important healthcare services, including:

✔ Wellness assessments and health screenings
✔ Laboratory sample collection and testing
✔ Dental procedures and dental radiographs
✔ Anesthesia monitoring and surgical
✔ Nursing care and treatments
✔ Medication administration and treatments
✔ Nutrition and weight management support
✔ Client education and preventive healthcare guidance
✔ Puppy and kitten care guidance
✔ Senior pet monitoring
✔ Preventive healthcare recommendations
✔ Answering questions about your pet’s care

A RVT wellness appointment is a great opportunity to discuss your pet’s health, lifestyle, nutrition, mobility, behaviour, and preventive care needs. These appointments help us monitor ongoing health concerns, identify changes early, support healthy aging, and keep your pet feeling their best

When you meet with a RVT, you can feel confident knowing your pet is in the hands of a knowledgeable, licensed professional who is dedicated to their health and well-being.

🐶 Educated.
🐱 Licensed.
🐾 Accountable.
❤️ Committed to Exceptional Patient Care.

🚗Never leave your pet unattended in a car
☀️When hot/humid, keep your pet’s time outdoors limited
💦Keep your pet hydrated
🌬️Ensure your pet has ventilation and a cool environment
➡️Dogs with short noses are at higher risk due to their condensed facial anatomy and restricted ability to cool themselves

**Announcement**
We will be supporting Dr. Jamey during a short sabbatical starting this summer. The following is a letter from him:

May 2026 marks my 25th year of service at the Mount Brydges Animal Clinic! Having graduated in 2001, this was my first veterinary job which flourished into a commitment of care to the community, ownership of the practice and a diverse skillset. My loyalty quickly developed given the growing need in the area, the wide variety of interesting cases and, most
importantly, the kindness of the people. I was immediately welcome and was mentored by the veterinary team when I joined. I have been able to pay it forward in my leadership role. I am confident and proud of our team.

The building is cinderblock and mortar, so it stands firm and it is here for the ages. It proves its relevance as the care from within freely aligns with the inevitable changes over time.

The change I personally need, requires time away from the practice. A sabbatical defines it properly. My last day will be June 30, 2026 and I will be away for a minimum of 2 months. My 25 years have been uninterrupted, so a break like this is unfamiliar to me. The intention is rejuvenation and that will take the time it will take. To be of best service to the ones I care about, requires I take proper care of myself.

The Mount Brydges Animal Clinic has consistently provided compassionate care with high standards of medicine because of “like-minded” people. Personal growth is encouraged and supported with the benefits realized by our patients and their respective humans who entrust them in our care. Looking back on it, many of the days were long, but the years went by quickly!

I will be returning in the capacity of doing surgical procedures that are more complicated, mentorship and coverage when there are veterinary shortages. I am grateful for the relationships, trust and support shared with so many
fantastic people over these years. Mount Brydges Animal Clinic is a career home for me.

My sincere Thank You!
Jamey Osmond
Gibson my cat, Clutch my cockapoo and Arlee my hound...there are many more critters as you can imagine!
