Summer in a pail 🍅 The last of our tomatoes. We'll let these ripen inside as the stink bugs are getting bad. And then make more salsa, tomato sauce and maybe some roasted tomato soup and fresh tomato sandwiches 🍲 Whats your favourite thing to do with alllll the tomatoes? ✌️

Homemade salsa today 🍅🌶🫑🧄🧅 will it be spicy? Who knows? I used a fair amount of cayenne peppers fresh out of the garden. Fresh canning is amazing to have for the winter but also a great gift to give. Harvest season is here! And we have a LOT of beans so we're blanching and freezing this bunch. You can just freeze green or yellow beans after simply washing and drying them, but the texture and flavour may not be as good, and they can become mushy and lose quality over time. For the best quality preservation, blanch before freezing by boiling them for about 3 minutes in 1 pound batches and then cooling them in ice water to stop the cooking process. Freeze and enjoy later 🫘 ✌️

According to Native Orchid Conservation Inc, there are 37 species of native orchids in Manitoba! This includes various species like the Dragon's-mouth orchid, Grass-pink orchid, Fairy-slipper orchid, and Lady Slippers, like the ones pictured here. Lady Slippers are also known as Cypripedium parviflorum and typically blooms in late spring to mid-summer.

Hundreds of these grow around our acreage in Southern Manitoba. And we'll risk getting covered in ticks to get a close-up of these beauties 💛💚💛 ✌️
