Checking in after a long no hiatus to care for multiple deaths/crises in the Montreal Q/T community and my own biological family, but wanted to at least make concrete the work that’s been keeping me sane and the lights on, so to speak!

Thank you to e-Maude for supporting my work in adopting 500 dermestids from my overgrown colony!

The feeding rhythm feels more grounded and manageable now!

Today’s warm up: mummifying wings!

This pigeon I found across the street from my favourite Dépanneur (bodega for my American friends) after being seen getting hit by a car. They died pretty quickly and since it was nowhere near any local predators or safe enough spaces for any to come get it, I claimed it for myself!

It’s important to me as an urban vulture to not compete with wildlife whenever I can, especially in making sure im not depriving predators of their hard-earned prey!

Protect your city wildlife and stay mindful!

Taking inventory of finished works I’ve done over the past couple of years.

No word from any job applications yet so I’ll likely begin selling off my collection soon, and opening up commissions again instead of focusing on practice practice practice.

But I’ve always loved learning in the field more than from a distance to what I love doing.

Trying to come back out of another burnout drop to share what I’m working on these days!

Pictured here are the freshly finished pieces from two hawk-strikes from the alley behind my home. If you’ve ever witnessed a successful hunt by a local predator, it’s truly humbling isn’t it?

I made sure to leave the bodies for several hours before coming back to the sites to check for signs of continued consumption and decided to claim the once it looked like they weren’t coming back!

Between a lot of work on my home and health the work has been slow but constant!

This new year o hope to clear out my inventory of cleaned bones, as I lack the interest in making jewelry with what I have. Instead of forcing it and putting these beauties through a joyless craft for me, hopefully some handy craftsmen and artisans can give new life to these little ones for me!

If you wish to reach out for specific pieces you have seen, feel free to message for a trade or barter! Otherwise stay tuned for sale/trade posts in the near future!

Behold my very first successful heart mummification!!!!

This was a long explorative process to come to a result I actually like and with enough successful trials I’ll be able to offer this as a service with bone cleaning and pet memorials!

This specimen is the heart of an adult grey squirrel I salvaged from right outside my apartment! She was a pregnant female that passed away from a car collision- it was instant for her and I’m grateful!

Her skeleton was in pretty rough shape despite her body looking fine on the outside! Her skin and paws are helping me learn more about taxidermy and pelt preservation!

The 4 fetuses were buried in my garden to go back to the dirt, along with her entrails and broken bones.

I regret her death, but am grateful for what she has left behind!
In a way, she is loved!

Here is a progress pic from correspondence with an amazing dog parent who has entrusted me with her companion’s bones in preparation for the afterlife!

All that is left is to finish dry-scrubbing the remaining bones, mend the last few cracks and brittle age-spots, and wrap her up to go home in December!

This is my first large dog commission of my life, and by far the longest project! Being a heftier dog her bones absorbed a lot of her fatty oils post mortem and took much longer to clean due to a shoestring equipment budget and past housing chaos!

But she’s going home soon!
